After a few more moments of silent pondering, Shureii nodded slowly.

"We will go, but first, unchain me."

So she knew...

Muttering a few words, the invisible restraints fell off of her.

She might have not known it, but those chains were what kept her safe. The fact that they made themselves noticeable by her...

He put on a polite smile as he opened the door for Shureii and Yuki.

Letting out a sigh, Shureii looked down at the sleeping form of Yuki. He was holding into her in a way similar to when she had first adopted him.

He must have been so scared...

She brushed his bangs away from his face.

To think that they would drug even him...no wonder this country is known for its military prowess...

"So I was tested to see if I would pose any problems for your kingdom." Setting down her glass, she looked at the king, a sharp look in her eyes. "Were the results satisfactory?"

Hm...The King looked at her eyes which were directly looking at her with an expression that was still neutral but hiding an angry fire. So she is no longer scared...how...unexpected...His lips curved in a barely noticeable tilt that not even the Earl noticed. I don't dislike it...

"Yes. I was glad to find that you are someone who came with good intentions. After all..." His eyes narrowed, glinting from the chandelier lights. "I have taken to you."

"Is that so?"

"You are displeased."

He was amused by how she stuck to only the first topic without caring about his second statement where he had practically said she was to his liking.

"I was given no warning beforehand. I was put under a procedure I still do not quite understand the details of for a week. I was separated from my son who was also drugged. Yes."

Her eyes narrowed even as her voice remained politely neutral.

"I am very displeased."

"You have my apologies." The King said. "If there is anything you wish for, please ask."

I don't care so much about your apology as I care about knowing exactly what I went through. All you gave me was that it was a special interrogation device that you knew for sure would not hurt me. If you weren't a King of the country I practically am functioning as ambassador in, I would've knocked some sense into you about proper etiquette in welcoming guests.

Finishing her mental rant, Shureii dipped her head in acceptance of the apology as she could not do anything else in her position. He had spoken in a tone that would have seemed earnest had Shureii not gone through her unpleasant experience and seen the amused look in his eyes.

If only you knew how tempted I am to sneak a major overdose of laxatives in that drink, you egotistical, over-sensitive brat, you would not be amused!

"We are fine."

At this, the Earl covered up his laugh with a cough. He had not missed the hidden, yet oh so blatant message behind her words.

Leave us alone.

Glancing at where his cousin sat, Koenrad noticed that he too was surprised in his own, barely noticeable way. Ah, dear cousin, looks like you have met your match. Not even you good looks or wealth can win over a mother's wrath.

Meanwhile, the King of Avamaeborg was stuck in a state of perplexion. For her to ignore his complimentary statement of liking her was surprising but expected. However, for her to also  refuse any compensation and to even give him a warning was something that the King never expected. Moreover, that reprimanding look in her eyes...

"If that is all, please excuse us."

Ordinarily he would have reacted in the same intimidating manner he always did. However he was currently still recovering from his surprise and automatically responded.

"Yes."

The doors closed behind her. Moments later Koenrad shed all his dignity as he burst out in full blown laughter. However, knowing his limits he did not say anything.

Barely registering this cousin's laughter, the King silently gazed at the place where Shureii had left with Yuki.

Totally oblivious to a certain King's stunned state was a very panicked Shureii.

Uwah!!! What did I just do??!!! How could I be so rude to the King I was supposed to create good ties with??!!! It's okay to harbor such horrid thoughts because he totally deserves it, but to rudely tell him off?! Shureii, are you an idiot??!! What if there is a war because of this?!

If not for Yuki's presence, Shureii would've given into her weakening knees and sat on the ground. Instead, the only sign of her inner turmoil was a slightly wobbly smile as she walked with Yuki to where she had previously found out were their actual prepared chambers.

Sinking into her pillows, Shureii closed her eyes. I'm just glad no one got hurt...

"My King, if I may, what do you plan to do with Lady Shureii?"

The Avamaeborg King did not answer immediately. In his hands was an ancient piece of ornament. He held it up to where the moon shone through the glass plane.

"We will do as planned. She has met the conditions needed to clear any suspicions. As promised, she is to be treated with the utmost care and attention. However..." Here he turned, his red eyes glowing ethereally in the moonlight. "She has also exceeded my expectations."

The Earl knew exactly what he left unsaid. He also knew that it was the end of the discussion. Bowing, he left the room.

"Good night, My King."

Walking down the corridors out to the gate where a carriage awaited to take him, the Earl looked up at the crescent moon.

Ah, seems like you have awakened the sleeping beast, Lady Shureii...Koenrad looked up at the chambers he knew where she and her son were. Now...what will you do once you find out?
