The wait

THE WAIT

You left me waiting in the rain,

It poured down hard that night,

The brave smile couldn't mask the pain,

As I watched you walk out of sight.

-

You left me standing in the room,

A cold shiver ran down my spine,

The house suddenly seemed gloom,

I can't pretend to be fine.

-

You left me crying tears of joy,

Your large hand soothing back my hair,

The doctor said it was a boy,

The news traveled by air.

-

You left me staring at the cop,

My fingers gripping the door,

His words made my heart flop,

I felt like I couldn't breathe anymore.

-

You left me dead at your grave,

"A hero to our nation" it read,

I choke out a whimper of your name,

Every night before bed.

-

I'll leave you waiting on me,

To meet at the place you are now,

Then we can be free,

To be together forever somehow.
