falling

things that fall:

• the tide, when the moon stops struggling with its slippery hands and decides to let go.
• the sun, when it drips below the horizon and the stars demand to see the heavens.
• the leaves, when the world beautifully gives into death, dressed in gold and scarlet; only to bloom again in the spring.
• the stars, when they get a little too curious and wander far away from home.
• the rain, when the clouds get too heavy and the thunder frightens them enough to send them hurling down to Earth, tripping over their own feet, shattering onto the ground below.
• and I, when you smiled at me, and told me that falling was only the beginning— because everything rises up eventually. Because although the moon releases the tide, she always reaches back down to pull it up again, and the sun always climbs back up the horizon to start a new day. And the leaves, the wind carriers them up and over the heavens, a single thread of autumn that connects us all. Even the stars, who glimpse our planet when the sun descends down night's staircase, and the rain, as the sun gently kisses the water and brings it up to reign again.

so let me fall, not gently, but straight into your arms.
