the harshness of reality
rules over me with an iron fist
it thinks it owns me.
but I have a secret:
while giving in to its grinning requests
I still hold onto my sanity.
I grip tightly to my dreams of roses
and beds softer than cotton clouds.
where I can sleep and sleep and sleep
with no fear of missing school
or waking later than the sun.
I drift off to a land with a cloudless sky
and jewel-bright atmospheres.
there are no rules, just laughter
and I have visions of dipping my hair into the sea
and feeling it's wonder seeping through my roots
and into my blood.
and when that happens
then— then I will feel alive.
yes, then I will finally feel alive.
