"Hee-young!" a voice behind me shouted my name.
I quickly wiped my tears and turned around. Stay strong, Hee-young. Stay strong.
He stopped in front of me. Not the one I expected but oh well. Life does not always go as you want it to.
"I am sorry for whatever Minghao did. I don't know what had gotten into him," Jun tried to explain.
I shoved the phone in his face.
"Then do you know about this?" I asked him.
His eyes widened at the sight of it. I swiped for him to see the other 2 pictures. His hands balled into fists.
"WHY THAT BOY-"
"We can't assume yet. Who knows if she really is his cousin? We can't jump to conclusions. Just pretend you know nothing," I tried to calm him down.
"But would a cousin really speak so lovingly to another and call her cute and give her pet names over the phone? I know this is too much for you to absorb, but that's what's happening. He's been calling her about 2 times a week ever since he returned from China. I thought it was you and that your situation was in the clear but after you told me about how you two have never contacted, I was shocked," he told me everything all at once.
Yes, I was overwhelmed. All this was new to me and they were negative things. All my thoughts and hopes for Minghao shattered. I could not hold my tears for long and let a few overflow.
On the sight of my first tear, Jun mumbled a quick apology to Minghao under his breath before bringing me into his arms.
"You will be ok. Just be strong. Maybe it's not as it seems just like you said. We'll see what Minghao has to say about it," he comforted me.
I cried in his chest. It felt like a foreign place to be. It was always Minghao or his hoodie whenever I needed to cry. I was not used to this bigger-sized person with a whole different smell.
"What do I do, Jun? I don't want to lose him," I cried out.
Jun's POV
Hee-young buried her face into my chest, dampening my t-shirt with her precious tears. I was heartbroken at the sight of her crying. If you asked me, I would kiss her and embrace her and tell that everything would be fine. However, that was my very restriction. I just could not. She was crying for someone else. Her heart was for someone else. She was afraid of losing that special person in her life. Unfortunately, he was not me. The pain in my heart grew with each tear she shed.
"Leave it to me. I'll help you investigate. I'll see if I can get Minghao to come to you personally to explain himself. For now, focus on doing something productive," I advised her, trying to sound as confident as possible.
All I could do now was to be by her side when she had no one else. It hurts when you love someone who does not love you back but well, life does not always work the way you want.
She let go of me and I instantly missed her arms around me.
"Thank you. I trust you, Jun. Thanks a lot," she thanked me, a small cute smile starting to form.
She intended to leave and she gave me another hug for comforting her.
"Your meal's on me by the way," I told her as she was walking away.
"What? No! I wanna pay for it," she said.
I shook my head and insisted. I felt that should not have to pay for a meal that came with a side of a horrible situation. She thanked me for the umpteenth time and left. I watched her as she walked down the street all alone. Her grandmother was gone. Her parents were busy. Who could she rely on at this time? Stupid Minghao. He should cherish what he had. I would beat the crap out of him, maybe even to death but Hee-young would not like that.
