CHAPTER 8: I'll Make the Pain go Away
"But you're a Vampire!!!"
"Yeah, I'm a Vampire, but does that really matter?"
"Yes it matters, look what just happened tonight, that could happen again, and next time, it could be you that does it!!"
"I'm her mate and I love her, I would never hurt her on purpose!"
"Yeah, on purpose. Thats the problem. Creatures like you can't control themselves."
"You don't know the first thing about me!"
The noise slowly slips its way into my ears as my brain slowly starts to comprehend what they were saying. It's my dad and Devin, but they are talking about Vampires. Why would they be talking about Vampires? Then it all comes back to me. The allie, Dylan, what he is. Then I remember something that he said, "My brother is one too," that line kept running through my mind.
"She's awake," my brothers voice breaks through as his face comes into my line of sight. His green eyes are slightly shiny as he looks down at me with a smile.
"How you feeling sweetie?" I hear my dad's voice come from the other side of where I was laying.
"I feel alright," I say, but my voice sounds a little raspy even to my own ears. I try and turn my head and feel a bandage on my neck. I wince slightly as the wound feels as if it is tearing open once again under the bandage.
"No one believes you Kitty," say a sweet voice from the direction of the doorway.
"Devin," a smile spreads across my face as his name rolled past my lips.
"Hey princess," he says softly. My dad moves out of my way for a second so that I can see him, there is a sad look in his eyes, but a slightly smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Than my dad is back in my way, but now he is right in front of Devin blocking him from getting any farther into the room.
"You are not getting in this room. Especially with her still bleeding. I may not be able to keep you away from her forever, but I will try my best now." his voice is hard and it seems like nothing could get through to him.
"You keeping me from her is just going to hurt her more than me being with her, especially now. I can help her, weather you believe me or not, I can. But you know that, don't you? You just don't want to admit it." Devin's voice is soft but firm.
"Daddy, please, just let him in," it was slightly painful to speak, and that was evident in my voice itself, but I had to have Devin by me, I needed him. My dad sighed not saying anything and he stiffly stepped out of the way, but never taking his eyes off Devin.
He moves to my side and takes my hand in his. There are tears in his eyes making the dark blue look like a calm lake on a clear night. I smile and rest my hand on his cheek. Leaning into my hand, he closes his eyes and I just watch him. We sit like that for a little while, I can see out of the corner of my eye, my dad watching us intently.
I didn't notice it before, but hes in his true form, with his dog ears coming out of his black hair and his eyes now a bright blue instead of a light green. I can't see his tail, but I assume it's there. Now that I think about it, I'm also in my truest form. I feel self conscious at the thought of Devin seeing me this way and I feel as my face get warmer. He chooses this moment to open his eyes. He smiles at me and I smile back, in this moment in time, I don't care if he knows what I am and I don't care what he is, he's mine, and there isn't anything that can change that.
"I'm so sorry I let this happen," Devin says looking right into my eyes.
"Its not your fault, don't blame yourself, its alright, I'm fine now, I'm.." my voice was cut off by a sharp pain running from my neck to the rest of my body. A high pitched screams rips it's way from my throat and my vision starts to go blurry.
"What did you do to her?" I heard my dad yell, but it sounded so faint.
"I didnt do anything, but if I don't do something soon shes going to die like this," Devin says.
"No, get your hands off my daughter!" my dad yelled but Devin wasn't listening.
He looks across me to my brother and in a calm voice says, "I'm letting you make a choice, either get yourself and your father out of this room so I can save your sister, or watch her die, make the choice, and quick."
My brother didn't need any more encouragement than that as he gets up and drags my father out of the room kicking and screaming. My brother is a lot stronger than my father, I wonder if Devin knew that....
My breathing was coming in gasps when he finally looked down at me. "I'll make the pain go away, Princess, I promise." I just looked at him as his hand went to my neck and took the bandage off. His eyes got a slight purple glow, but it looked like he was trying to hold something back. I watch as his head dips down towards my neck, my whole body is immobilized by the pain. Then I feel a slight pleasure coming from the center of the pain and realize that his lips are resting gently on my neck, his breath moves slowly over my skin. Then I feel it, the sharp pain as his teeth slip through my skin, but it didn't necessarily hurt, it actually felt nice. It was nothing like when Dylan did it. Just like everything else Devin does, he was gentle, and as he bit a little deeper, I could feel as the pain started to decrease, replaced by a pleasure i didn't know existed. Tangling my fingers in his hair, I pulled him closer, never wanting him to stop, but, all too soon, he slowly pulled away from my neck, my energy completely drained once his lips left my skin. Tingles run along my neck as his tongue slips across it.
He looks down at me as he leans over my tired frame, "feel better?" he asks looking into my eyes.
A nod of the head was all I could do with the little energy I had left. He smiled and kissed my lips lightly. "Good," he says pulling away once again, "now rest, my sweet, you need it," he sits next to me on the bed and slowly pets my hair. I reach out to him with one hand and he slips the hand that isn't in my hair into my hand. My eyes start to close, but I try to fight it, not wanting to fall asleep just yet. Apparently he noticed, "its alright," he says lightly, "I'll be here when you get up, alright? I wont leave you, ever again. You can sleep." With those words, my eyes finally closed and I let the dark overtake me once again.
