CHAPTER 7: A Dark Night
I pull into the driveway after another night at Devin's house. We have spent almost every afternoon together for the last couple of weeks or so and its been wonderful. I still haven't told him who or more or less what i am, but i want to wait until the right time so that I don't freak him out or anything. Yeah, him not freaking out is a dream that probably won't come true. I notice that all of the lights are off in the house. Everyone must be sleeping, I think to myself as I step out of my car. Not wanting to disturb anyone just yet, I grab my black hoodie that I through into the back seat and head down the deserted sidewalk.
The sun sinks below the horizon and the streets become dark. Each street light is like a beacon to those that despise the night. But not me. I walk down the alleyways thinking to myself as my eyes start to slowly adjust to the dark. I can feel as my pupils move into slits as I rely on my cat eyes to allow me to fully see through the black. The cool breeze lightly blowing across my face and through my hair, like a lover's caress. I take a deep breath, its not clean air like I'm used to, but its still a fresher air then in the compacted area of my house. I smile lightly to myself, this is actually turning out to be wonderful. Me and Devin are together, me and my brother are finally talking again, and I'm actually starting to feel happy again. Everything just seem beautiful.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" a deep voice comes from behind me. I turn around, but no one is there. Um... Ok... Maybe it was just my imagination. I turn back around and jump as I almost run into a blond haired boy standing right in front of me.
"I'm sorry," I say quickly as I tilt my head up slightly to get a better look at the boy's face.
"Its slightly Kitty, just watch where you're walking next time," Dylan says with a friendly smile on his face.
"Sorry," I say again as I try to go around him. He grabs my wrist and turns me so that I'm looking at him again.
"Where do you think your going?" he says slightly threateningly as his eyes lock onto mine.
"N-no where," I stutter out as my body tightens from the fear rushing through me.
"Why don't you stay and chat with me for a while?" he asks as his grip tightens on my wrist. I inhale sharply as his nails dig into my skin and break it just enough to get a stream of blood running down and over his fingers and my hand. He looks down quickly as his grip loosens ever so slightly. I took my chance and ripped my wrist out of his grasp and started running down the allieway.
I was getting closer to the end but just then he suddenly appeared in front of me. I skidded to a stop and started to back up away from him. He shouldn't have been able to catch up to me that fast. Then his eyes lock with mine, but they aren't the bright blue that they were just a second ago, they now glow a dark purple as his tongue slowly snakes across his finger as it drips with my blood.
"So I wasn't imagining it," I say, my voice sounding calmer than I was feeling.
"Wasn't imagining what?" he asks as he takes a step towards me.
"The eyes, its all in the eyes, it always is," I say more to myself than to him. I didn't even notice him get closer to me as my mind goes around trying to find another explanation other than the one that is obviously the answer. I look up at him and stand my ground, he is right in front of me now, since I had stopped moving when I was thinking. His hands are freezing as they press on my stomach. "You're a Vampire," I say and a sadistic smile spreads across his face.
"Wow, I'm impressed. The little kitty cat figured it out, finally." he said as he moves and pushes me up against the wall causing my head to slam into it, blurring my vision for a second or two. "And guess what," his voice is low and his lips brush against my ear when he speaks.
"W-what," I stutter out, his hands press hard into my stomach pushing me harder into the wall, the roof brick pushing into my back. He moves one of his hands off my stomach and into my hair, pulling it to the side, forcing me to tilt my head so that he had a clear shot to my neck.
"My brother is one too," He says right before his fangs rip into my flesh. My eyes go wide at the shearing pain as he tears his way to the thick vein in my neck. I dont even have the strength to scream as my blood pores into his mouth. The cat inside me fights it's way out and I have no way of stopping her.
My claws come out and rip at his close but its no use, my tail goes down and wraps around my leg, my ears slip through my hair and I can hear more of what is going on outside of the little scene playing out in this little allie. My eyesight sharpens even more as my eyes, I'm asuming, take on the yellow glow of my cat. So there I stand, in my truest form as a Shifter as my life is slowly drained out of me by a vampire in this little allie. What an annoying way to die.
Thats when I heard footsteps echoing against the walls of the almost empty allie. All I could think was for them to get away and be safe before Dylan realizes that they are there. But that apparently wasn't going to happen as they got closer and closer. I was waiting for a scream to be heard, but thats not what happened, what I did hear was a strong, deep, threatening voice that seemed to fill every corner of the space we were in. I couldn't fully comprehend the words that were being spoken, but it was just the sound of his voice, that sweet voice, that broke through the pain and the darkness. It was Devin.
Dylan was then ripped off me and his fangs painfully torn out of my neck. I fall to the ground with all of my energy drained and black spots forming in my vision. But just before everything goes black, I see Devin, and thats all I can focus on as the dark overcomes me.
