Chapter 13:
Harry woke early the next morning, as usual, and had to drag Ron out of bed to get up (literally).
Ginny was still sleeping and Harry remembered their conversation from the night before. He wasn't sure if she was truly sleeping or just trying to ignore Harry. Either one made him feel sad on the inside.
Hermione, on the other hand, was up earlier than both Ron and Harry but just gave them the cold shoulder all morning. She made them breakfast but threw it in front of them and stomped away.
Ron was apparently too tired to even complain or try to make her understand so he just gulped down his eggs with an upset expression.
They left soon after that, not wishing too prolong their stay in the cold environment any longer.
Ron tried to talk to Hermione before leaving but that just resulted in her yelling fiercely "Ronald!" and Ron quickly followed Harry out to work after that.
"How long do you think they're going to be like that?" Ron asked once Harry had locked the front door and they were standing outside on the sidewalk in front of his house.
Harry shrugged. "I don't blame them honestly. Let's just go before we're late."
Ron nodded and with a pop they both disappeared from the quiet, early morning street and into the ministry.
Kingly was waiting for them at the entrance of the auror department and cornered them before they could even enter.
"So how was the Thunderbolt?"
Harry and Ron exchanged looks.
"It was quite...useful," Ron said carefully, casting a side glance at Harry.
"So it rode well?" Kingsly asked, clearly very excited about the matter.
An image of Harry and Ron standing on the roof of Lightmen's car flashed through Harry's mind.
"Yeah it was great," Harry said uncomfortably.
"Wonderful!" Kingsly exclaimed.
"So..." Harry said trying to wrap up the conversation, "When do you want them back?"
Kingsly waved them off. "Keep them. My treat."
Ron glanced at him with crazy eyes. Harry ignored him.
"Are you sure?" Harry asked again.
Kingsly nodded. "Now I must get back to work. Glad you enjoyed them," he called over his shoulder as he walked away.
Ron looked at him as he left. "Bloody good we can keep them because we left them in the car."
Harry nodded, agreeing. "Come on. Let's get to work."
Ron rolled his eyes. "Must we?"
They walked through the door and had to fall back against the wall.
The scene they were greeted with had people running around like chickens without their heads. There were papers thrown everywhere and people running around the offices, screaming frantic things and yelling for people. No one noticed Harry and Ron walk in through the doors, which was odd considering they were the most popular people in the ministry these days.
Harry made his way to one of his coworkers that he generally got along with. "Katilyn, what's going on?"
She turned to him and a wave of relief filled her face. "Harry thank goodness! It's been crazy here!"She threw her hands in the air.
"I can tell," Harry said looking around the room. "What's going on?"
Katilyn looked around carefully as if making sure no one in the screaming room could overhear them.
"You know that guy for the department of mysterious," she started.
Harry tensed but Ron spoke up,. "Who exactly are we talking about here? There are a lot of people in the department of mysterious."
Katilyn leaned in closer. "That guy...uh Lightman I think his name was."
Harry could have sworn he stopped breathing.
But Ron still had a voice somehow,"Yeah I think I've seen him around. What about him?"
"Well we found his car. Empty. With an enchantment from the outside that doesn't let us go inside. We're pretty sure no one is in their though," Katilyn said.
Harry mentally praised himself for putting that enchantment on.
"That's terrible. But what can we do about it?"
Katilyn smiled,"You both are the best aruor's in the ministry. We want you guys to try breaking the spell so that we can go inside."
Ron shifted next to Harry and he could sense that he was beginning to get uncomfortable about this situation.
"Sorry..." Ron started but Harry cut him off.
"Yeah of course we will look at it," he smiled reassuringly.
Ron shot him a look but Harry ignored it.
"Oh thank you!" Katilyn exclaimed clearly relived. "You don't know how much stress this takes off my shoulders."
She turned and cupped her hands around her mouth in order to make an announcement. "Hey everyone! Harry Potter and Ron Weasley are going to break the spell for us!"
It was as if the entire room let out a giant breath of air.
Ron turned on Harry the minute she left.
"What are you thinking! Our brooms are in there. They will know that we had something to do with all of this."
"Exactly," Harry said as if it all made sense, "Our brooms are in there. That means we can get them before anyone finds out we had something to do with this."
Ron's face filled with understanding.
He nodded his head. "Let's get to work then."
