Chapter 15:
"So..." George began, confused at Harry's reaction to the situation, "Where do you think he is?"Harry pushed past him out the door and George followed. Normally, George would be more concerned if someone had reacted this way to any event but it was Harry Potter. George stopped questing what went on in his mind ever since Voldemort returned.
"I have no idea," Harry admitted. "But I'm sure he will show up," he said more to himself, yet not believing a word of it.
"Yeah..." George started, he was staring at Harry like he was a mad man.
Harry could not blame him.
George scrunched his eyebrows together. "Harry are you sure everything's alrig..." he stopped as an owl landed squarely on his shoulder. George ripped off the note tied to its leg and flipped it open.
"Who's it from?"Harry asked hopefully.
"Angelina."
Harry's panic began to rise again.
George continued to scan the parchment.
"She wants me to be home for supper now. Apparently her parents have surprised her and came to the house," George said still staring down at the letter.
He folded it into his pocket and looked up at Harry. "I'd better go. But tell me when you reach Ron," he called over his shoulder.
Harry gave him a slight nod and wave as George walked away.
"Harry," said a voice behind him.
Harry turned sharply on his heels in the direction of the voice. Harry drew back slightly at the person he saw before him.
Could this day get any weirder? He asked himself.
"Hermione!" Harry exclaimed, not concealing his suprise. "Er... hey, what are you doing here?" he asked, trying to cover for his momentary shock at seeing her.
Hermione gave him an odd look but to his sheer luck she did not make anything of Harry's off putting behavior.
"I'm looking for Ron," Hermione explained, "And you of course."
"I just felt like I was so rude to you both last night, so I just came to apologize."
"Oh well all is forgiven," Harry said quickly, and felt relief flood his stomach. "No hard feelings."
Harry put on a strained smiled "Well thanks for stopping by but I bet you are busy, so you better be off," he put on arm around her for a quick hurried hug and let go quickly.
Hermione backed away from him,. Her eyebrows were scrunched together, clear suspsion creeping on her expression.
"Where's Ron? I want to tell him also".
Harry felt fear sliver up his spine. He could not let Hermione know Ron was gone. She would go ballistic if she found out that he was missing.
"Uh.. I'm not sure but I'll tell him that you stopped by," Harry said quickly, he looked at his wrist which held no watch on it and said, "Well look at the time. I best be going. See you around, Hermione."
Hermione stepped foward and grabbed Harry's arm.
"No really, I feel bad about what I said. I rather apologize in person," her tone was slow, testing. "Where is he, Harry?" Hermione asked, her voice low and bordering on dangerous.
Harry looked around nerviously.
"Er I don't think that's the best idea," he said fidgiting with his cuffs and not meeting her stare.
Harry could feel the anger radiating off of Hermione.
"Harry where is he?" she asked, struggling to keep her voice low.
"Hermione..." Harry looked into her intense gaze and deflated in defeat.
"Come here," he pulled her into an abandoned corner.
Hermione crossed her arms. "I'm waiting."
"Ron...uh...sort of left," Harry whispered.
"Left! What do you mean by left?" she yelled.
"Actually more like disappeared," Harry corrected.
"DISAPPEARED!" Hermione screamed, clearly outraged.
"Yes," Harry whispered urgently, "Lower your voice."
"How could does a person just disappear?"she fumed.
"I don't know. Ron was here one minute and gone the next," Harry explained, gesturing with his hands.
"Well do you have any idea where he is?" she tested him.
"Obviously not or else we wouldn't be having this conversation," he pointed out.
"Oh my god." Hermione placed her hand to her forehead to calm herself down. "Do you have any idea who would even do this to him?"
Harry didn't answer.
"You know something don't you," Hermione tested him once again. Her voice was at a dangerously low tone and her eyes were shooting daggers at Harry.
"I... Hermione," Harry reasoned, "it's more complicated than that."
"Harry Potter tell me what you know right now," she demanded, pointing her finger into his chest.
Harry hesitated but eventually sighed and explained to her all about Lightman warning Harry. About finding his dead body. She stayed quiet through the whole story.
"....And so I told him to go and dispose of the brooms and he did but I think that whatever dark thing that's out there has Ron," Harry finished finally.
Hermione was silent for a moment. Her finger had dropped down from Harry's chest and now lay limp by her side.
"So you are telling me," she began slowly, "that whatever thing that's bad out there, might have Ron."
"Yeah pretty much."
"Well then what are we waiting for? We have to go get Ron!" Hermione exclaimed.
"Hermione, I think it's best if you stay here. I don't know anything about what's out there and how bad it is. I just don't want you, or anyone for that matter, to get hurt. I've already had enough people getting hurt for a lifetime," Harry said.
"They have my boyfriend! If you think I am going to stay here and wait for you to save the day then you are very much mistaken. There is no way that I'm not going," she snapped.
"Hermione..."Harry started.
She held up a hand to stop him.
"No Harry this is not open for discussion. I'm going with you."
And just like that it was settled
