I have seen life and I have seen death,
I have seen a baby and the elderely take their first and last breath,
I have held their hand as they lose their grip on this world,
I have watched with care as their soul has unfurled,
I do what I can to ease their pain,
I do what I can as I see their strength wain,
I put on a smile while my heart breaks again,
I comfort the families as I say how long and when,
I am the one who can speak to children, parents, siblings and mates,
I am the one the confused and lost one hates,
But they are all mine to care for whether they know it or not,
They are here in safety where they have remembered or forgot,
Because I am a nurse, and my oath is sacred,
I was born for this purpose, I know I was fated,
To be the one your loved ones and you need during these dark days,
To be by your side as life shows you all it's spectrum of ways.
