I fight for peace could not be more accurate,
I cry out to stop every bruise and cut,
But in my ways of peace and justice,
I stamp on the flowers taking their sunlight and soil,
To allow those others to grow,
To the struggling buds I was the hero,
To the lilting lillies I was the oppressor,
History is a fickle thing, it can remember me whichever way it pleases,
I strive for peace but I am human and so I make it worse. There is another kind of peace though,
One that reverberates inside us all,
It is the peace of being oneself and knowing that is enough,
As I grow older I realise I am flawed,
But that I try my best to be a good person,
I have found peace in my soul with who I am inside,
I hope, deep down, peace may be infectious,
And that by being at peace within, this will ripple outwards,
That I may walk through life like the sun breaks the horizon,
Sowly drifting upwards, shining my light but being far enough away to not set the world alight,
By doing this I bring a true peace,
A peace that is more like a wafting lullaby than the stunned silence after a gunshot. There are many types of peace in this world,
Some have been fought for by blood and lives,
And for this peace we remember our heroes and plant our poppies,
We sing about the sailors lost at sea and we speak of the soldiers lost to the earth,
We carry them in our hearts and our memories, so that their legacies may live on,But many wars on and humanity has not learned,
Perhaps anger is infectious and fighting will get us nowhere but another nodge on a timeline,
So I propose a new way of finding peace,
Each human on this planet searches inside themselves for peace,
They become at peace with who they are,
They have nothing to prove and nothing to hide,
We are not worthy of judging one another,
By doing so we can stop fighting for peace,
And perhaps then the struggling buds and the lilting lillies will both get some sunlight.
