I hummed as I walked down the aisle my shopping squeaking along. I glanced at the list and grabbed some crackers off the shelf, and placed them in the cart. I was running a few errands for my mom, right now it was grocery shopping. I checked crackers off the list and headed to the next aisle for some bread.

"Emma!" Someone called from the other end of the aisle.

I turned and saw Jonathan standing there a basket in hand. My heart skipped a beat as I walked over my squeaky cart screeching the whole time.

"Hey. Fancy seeing you here." He said with a lopsided grin.

"Yes indeed." I said smiling.

"How are you doing?" He asked and I saw his gaze slide to my wrist.

"I'm pretty good. Me and my mom had a talk today, and I feel we were both pretty open and I really think it's good for our relationship especially through this hard time." I rambled." How are you?"

"That's great! I know it can be hard, and I'll be here if you ever need a friend."

"Thanks so much." I smiled at his thoughtfulness.

"Of course! I'm pretty good, still a bit of the blues, but it's getting better." When he mentioned it his eyes lost some of their shine, and I wanted to just pull him in for a hug.

"Can I hug you?" I asked blushing at the stupidness of the question.

"Umm... Sure." He said giving me an odd look.

I stepped out from behind my cart and wrapped my arms around his waist. At first he was stiff then he relaxed and placed his arms around me.

"Sorry, it just looked like you needed a hug." I said stepping away.

"Nah don't be, I did. Thanks." He smiled gratitude evident in his eyes.

"No problem, well I better get back to shopping. I guess I'll see you around." I said stepping behind my cart and glancing at the list to see what was next.

"What do you have to get?" He asked raising an eyebrow.

"Milk, eggs, and bananas." I said reading the last three items on the list.

"Might as well walk over together. I need milk and eggs." He suggested with a shrug.

"Sure why not." I smiled and pushed my cart up so I was standing beside him.

We both got the two items, we talked while doing it. And before I knew it I had forgotten about my troubles it was nice to just be carefree when talking to someone. We bid each other goodbye and I headed to the produce while he walked to the register.

I smiled to myself as I picked out some bananas. He was such a sweet genuine guy and a great friend. No way was he better then Rachael, but I don't think anyone could be. She's pretty hard to contest with. Especially since we've known each other for a while.

My phone buzzed with a text probably from mom or Rachael. I pulled it out and checked it.

Mom: Hey, I feel really bad... I have something to tell you when you get home. I haven't been completely honest

Me: What!? Okay I'll be home in a few

I was bewildered by what it could possibly be. My mind raced overtime trying to think of what the heck it could be. Maybe she got fired. Maybe I had a twin I didn't know about. Maybe she had cancer. The list of things I thought went on and on.

I quickly checked out my items and got them to the car. I drove away in a rush barely remembering to put my seatbelt on.

"What is it mom." I burst out the second I opened the door.
