Two-Bit and Marcia were as absorbed in each other now as they were at the movies.

"Tell me about your other brother, Darry," Cherry said to Ponyboy.

"What about him?" Ponyboy asked.

"Darry roof's houses. He's twenty," I told Cherry.

"Oh," Cherry began. "And does he like that job, Ponyboy?"

"Yeah, I mean it's good enough. He got a football scholarship for Alabama but he didn't go so he could look after Soda and me," Pony explained.

"That's nice of him," stated Cherry.

Ponyboy lit a cigarette.

"Pass me one," I said.

Pony held out the box for me.

"Darry doesn't want me around," Ponyboy said, "It's like he wants to put me in some boys home and Soda won't let him."

"What?" Snapped Two-Bit, flicking Ponyboy over the head.

"You guys get along fine," Johnny added.

"We really don't. Shut up Johnny, you ain't wanted at home either," spat Ponyboy.

"You shut your mouth, kid!" Snapped Two-Bit.

"Sorry," said Ponyboy, apologizing. "I didn't mean that."

"It's okay, we all say things we don't mean," Johnny said sweetly.

"Nothin' would be the same without you, Johnny," said Two-Bit as he ruffled Johnny's hair.

As he said this, I noticed a blue Mustang trailing us as we walked.

Cherry groaned.

"What do we do, just act normal?" Marcia questioned.

"Be cool," Two-Bit assured.

The car stopped behind us. Bob Shelden and Randy Adderson stepped out.

"Cherry!" Bob called out. "What the hell are ya doing? Just cause we got a little drunk doesn't mean you can ditch us."

"Bob, you were extremely intoxicated that night! I've said it before and I'll say it again, we won't be around you when you're drinking and we mean it! Right, Marcia?" Cherry spat.

"You tell em, Cherry!" Marcia called.

Cherry stood with her hand on her hip looking satisfied.

"That's no reason to hang with these hobos!" Yelled Randy.

"We ain't hobos, buddy!" Two-Bit retorted.

Randy launched himself at Two-Bit before Marcia pushed him back and swore at him.

Randy pushed Marcia behind him.

"We got two more of us in the car!" Cried Randy.

"Pity the back seat!" Yelled Two-Bit, giving me the signal we made a few years ago. I smashed a glass bottle from the ground so it was sharp and could be used as a weapon, pulled out my switchblade and handed it to Two-Bit, seeing he gave his to Dally in case Tim Shepard found him.

"You wanna fight?" Yelled Two-Bit.

"Yeah!" Randy yelled enthusiastically

"Then let's go! Right now!" Two-Bit yelled again.

"Stop!" Yelled Cherry. "We'll get in the car Bob, just wait a second."

"Why?" Asked Two-Bit. "We ain't scared of them!"
