"So is this everything?" Dally asked as he helped me carry all my stuff out of my old house.

"Yeah," I told him, putting my stuff in the trunk of his new T-Bird. "So tell me again why we can move in so quickly?"

"Pretty simple really. The house has just been built, so no one really needs to move out. The paper works been done," Dally said, getting into the front seat.

I sat down in the passenger seat. "So how far is it from the Curtis house?"

"Just a few streets away," Dally said. "Also, I'm your legal guardian now. I've done all the checks and I just sent the paperwork off."

I beamed and reached over to give Dally a hug. "Thank you, thank you!"

"You're welcome, kid. I'd obviously rather you live with me than anyone else," Dally said as he pulled into the driveway of a house.

It was a nice house. It was made of bricks and white timber with dark shutters.

"Dally, how did you afford a house like this?" I asked.

"I took out a loan," Dally said. "Same way I bought the car off Buck. He did give me a discount, though."

"I'll help you pay it back," I told him.

"No way," Dally said. "I want you to have the best life possible. And that does not involve you helping me pay back a loan. Besides, I mainly got this for you."

We carried everything in from the car.

"That's your room," Dally said, pointing to a white door.

It was nice. White walls and furniture, carpet, and blue curtains.

"Dally, where did you get all this furniture?" I asked. "Loan?"

"No, I used the money mum left me," Dally said.

"Does that mean Mum left me money too?" I asked. "I'm giving it to you."

"You can't access it until you're eighteen," Dally said.

"Damn it," I said.

The rest of the day was spent getting settled into the new house. Dally really went all out and I was so so grateful.

I put my sheets, teddy bear and pillows on the bed, put my jewelry, makeup, perfume, beauty products and clothes in and on the dresser, put my stuff on the shelves, my books in the bedside tables and I set up my record player and put all my records away. I already felt at home.

"Dally, I'm going out for a bit," I called out.

"Okay! See you later," Dally called from the kitchen.

He never asked when I was going or when I was coming back, he trusted me.

I headed down the street for the main road in search of a job. I couldn't just live off Dally's money. And I wanted to contribute.

Just my luck, there was a help wanted sign on the window at the Dingo. I pushed open the door and went inside.

"Hi, I was just wondering about the help wanted sign?" I asked a waitress.

"Sure, I'll get the manager," she said, walking off.

The waitress came back a few minutes later with a rather large man.

"I'm Jerry," he said, shaking my hand. "Golly do you look familiar."

"You do too, sir," I said cheerfully.

"Aren't you one of those kids who saved those kids from the fire last summer?" Jerry asked.

"Uh, yeah," I said, quickly.
