I was cut from my train of thought when I saw out of the corner of my eye some splashing. I look towards a rocky area in the water and see a tail flipping in and out of the water. Is it that time of the year already? It seemed like it's been forever. I was so excited I almost forgot about Bella as I stood up and started walking away.

"Um, where are you going?", Bella asked with one eyebrow high above the other.

"Oh. Sorry I need to go, I forgot that I had a um, left some paints out at home and I need to clean everything up you know". I smile so she doesn't suspect that I'm lieing.

"Ok, well, I will text you or something later then", Bella answered. A little bit of skepticism in her voice.

As I turn to walk away I call over my shoulder, "Enjoy yourself! And go talk to those guys why don't you?". I don't wait for her response.

I couldn't help myself I ran and ran all the way to the secluded side of the beach. I fingered my necklace one last time before I stripped down to my swim suit and ran into the water, then dove when it was deep enough. I swam down to the reef and waited. Once every year I was able to do this and every year it was kind of uncomfortable.

First I feel a tingling sensation in my feet, then it spreads up my legs to my stomach, through both arms and up my neck to my face. Next, bubbles start bubbling around me, almost fizzing. They cling to my body and sqeeze together, I feel like I am going to be compressed to death, the pressure almost hurting my body. Finally at the last moment all the bubbles pop at once and I'm free.

I look down at my feet but they aren't feet anymore. I have a tail! I smile to myself. Oh how I have missed the sea. I run a hand over my tail, its light blue hue shimmering under my scales. My tail isn't slimy or fleshy like a fish it feels like human skin, soft yet rough. You can feel each of the thousands of scales in a pattern almost. Out of excitement I do flips and twirls smiling and giggling. I can't believe I have been gone a year! A year since my last visit, a year since I was one with water.
