Olivia laughs, hard, as she walks over and sits down across from us. She's still in her pajamas and hadn't brushed her graying hair yet.

"Since everyone is here, we should discuss what we want to do next".

"I don't really know", I say.

Olivia fidgets in her chair. "I had an idea, if you'd like to hear it?", she says it like she thinks I'll object.

"Of course".

"I think we should go to your father, Malerie, and talk about finding your sister", Olivia clears her throat.

My sister? What does my sister have anything to do with this, I haven't seen her in years, many, many years. "What help could my sister give?", I ask.

"Malerie, I think it's time you knew", Olivia says with caution.

"Knew what?".

Olivia pauses before beginning, "Lila, your sister, came to me and begged to be human, as you know. What you were told was that she didn't want to be a mermaid because of your mother's death, that is not true". I tense up, I was lied to?

"What we didn't tell you, is that she wanted to be human because that was her only option of escape".

"I don't understand ... escape? Escape from what?", I question.

"There is a creature, deep in the ocean that is feared by all. It rules over all the dark creatures, like Diru. And yes there are more horrifying creatures than the Diru".  I shudder, my worst nightmare becoming a reality.

"Lila was the only merperson to survive a confrontation with this creature. She was out venturing, and accidentally came in contact with him", Olivia says. I start to shake. Daymon sees and intertwines his fingers with mine, I instantly calm down.
