"Looks like you had a rough night", Daymon says when I finish.

I think for a minute, then say, "Daymon I'm terrafied.  I'm terrafied of the Diru.  Thinking about them, about my kidnapping and everything that happened makes me want to never set foot in the water again, well tail in this case.  Anyways, I can't bear the thought of what they could do to my kingdom and those I love!", a tear slides down my cheek.  "Seeing you get tackled by the Diru, I thought that they would k ... kill you", I start to tear up even more.  "I had realized I'd never thanked you for helping me escape, so thank you.  Thank you for risking your life for mine, for everything", I wipe my eyes and look away.

"Oh Mal", Daymon's voice becomes low and comforting.  He pulls me towards him so my head is resting on his shoulder and his arms around me in a hug.  We sit there like that for a while, staring at the fire pit, at least until my eyes dry up and I stop sniffling.

"Your welcome", Daymon whispers into my hair.  "I will always help you, whenever you need it".

I believe him.

Looking up at Daymon, I don't think that I've ever felt so connected to someone like I am to him.  He's a kind and comforting guy, but he has his humorous side as well.

I glance at his lips, his perfect lips.  Daymon looks into my eyes, it feels like he's examining my soul.  He slowly bends down, our lips touch.  I'm surprised, happy, and scared, all at the same time.  The kiss is soft and smooth, smiling, I look at him and reply, "I know you will".

I lean back against his shoulder, his arms tightening around me.  We both look back at the fire, the dancing flames put me to sleep.  I feel happy and peaceful for once.
