I walk into our building, it is right on the outside of the compound. I go straight to the fridge on the first floor. I grab a soda and head over to the elevator. I press the button that says 'Eaton'. The elevator takes me to the top floor, our apartment.

We live in a nice-ish building right outside the compound. The building has five floors. The first floor is the living area and a kitchen that everyone uses.

The second floor is Will and Christina's apartment. Jo and Claire are there only kids, but identical twins are like five kids in two.

On the third floor, Zeke, Shauna, Patrick, Tommy and Bella live. Bella is fourteen, the same age as Nat and Andy. Patrick is Amar's age. Tommy is my age, sixteen.

The forth floor is Uriah, Marlene, Hana, Hector and Harry's apartment. Hana is Amar's age and Harry is Nat and Andy's age. Hector, obviously, is my age.

Then the fifth floor is our apartment. Me, mom, dad, Amar, Nat and Andy live there. Amar is 18, two years older than me. He stayed dauntless and was at the top of his initiation group, like both my mom and dad. Then Natalie and Andrew, Nat and Andy, are two years younger than me. They are twins.

The elevator opens and I walk into my house. "Mom!" I call, but there is no answer. She's probably still working at the tattoo parlor Or doing something else around the compound.

I go back into the elevator and press the 'lobby' button. Once, I'm in the lobby, I throw away my can and run out the building towards the compound. It's like a two minute walk from the building to the entrance to the compound. Most of the dauntless live in apartments in the compound, but my parents wanted to be a little bit away from everything.

I run through the pit and run through a hallway. I look left and right until I reach the door that says 'Intelligence' on it. I knock once and open the door. I see mom sitting on dad's lap kissing him.

"Ewwww!!!!!!" I scream as I cover my eyes, so I don't have to see any more.

"Al?" Dad asks. "Why aren't you at school?"

"Why aren't you working?" I answer his question with a question.

"Al." Mom says.

"Fine. I had a headache. And the nurse sent me home." I say.

"How come you didn't call?" mom asks.

"I did." I say. "No one answered. And now I know why." I say looking from mom to dad. "I actually need to talk to dad, and mom I think you need to get back to work." I say and she gets up, rolls her eyes and gives dad a quick kiss, and walks out, shutting the door behind her.

Dad turns back to the computer, presses a few buttons and turns to me. "What's up honey?" he asks.

"Well, we have to do this project for school where we are in a group of one person from each faction. Well, in my group there are two from dauntless. But we were introducing each other and I said my name. And the erudite boy and the abnegation girl both were shocked. I they asked if I was related to Marcus Eaton. And I said that wasn't possible. They said he had a son, who he hit, and his son transferred to dauntless." I quickly say, leaving put the part where I yelled at them. "Then me and Hec were walking to class and he asked me if you could be from abnegation and I said no way. Cause you are the bravest person ever. And I said you had all the tattoos. The Hec said what if your dad did come from abnegation and he was beat by his dad and he got the tattoos to cover up the scars from the belt." I say, not stopping. A tear rolls down my face. I didn't realize I had been crying. I hate this project.

Dad walks over and pulls me into a hug. "Don't cry, Al. Shhhhh." he says why rubbing my back.

"Dad? Are you from abnegation?" I ask.

He looks at me and nods his head, tears filling his eyes.

"Is your dad Marcus Eaton?"

He nods again, as a tear rolls down his face.

"Did he hit you?"

He nods his head, and another tear falls.

"Is that why you got the tattoos all over your back?" I ask, crying even more.

He nods and pulls me back into a hug. "I love you dad."

"I love you too, Al," he says, "I have to get back to work. I'll see you tonight at dinner."

I sigh. "I have to go to Amity tonight for my project. But I'll see you when you get home."

"Wait, you are going to amity?" he asks.

"Yeah. It's for a school project."

"Did 'R have to do this?"

"No. Mrs. Johnson said it was new this year."

"Okay. Be careful."

"I'll be fine, dad. I'll be with Hector."

Hector.

I yelled a him. And I was wrong. I glance at the clock. He should be home soon. I'll go wait for him.

"Bye dad!"

"Bye."

"I'll take Al's books to her." Claire says, grabbing the bag in my hand.

"I got it. I need to talk to her anyways," I say. "I'll see you later." We all get in the elevator. Everyone gets out on their floor and I head to the top floor, Al's apartment.

I walk out the elevator and I'm about to knock when I feel someone small wrap their arms around me.

"Hec. I'm so so sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you and I was so-" Al starts, but I interrupt her.

"Al. I shouldn't have said that. You were right. I'm so sorry." I say.

"Hec," she says, I look down into her dark blue eyes that are filling with tears. "You-you were-you were right. My dad is from abnegation. He is Marcus Eaton's son. And Marcus hit him. He hit my dad."

"Hey Al. It's okay." I say, but she stops me.

"That's why my dad got the tattoos." She starts bawling and I pull her into a hug.

"Shhhh. It's okay." I say rubbing her back.

"Oooh!!" I hear Harry and Nat say in sync.

Andy yells, "Get a room!"

The four of them walk into the apartment and leave the door open.

"C'mon Al. Let's start homework," I say and walk into her apartment. She wipes her eyes. There are mascara stains on her cheeks. "Here's your bag," I say once she is in her and Nat's room.

"How'd you-?" she starts.

"You left it in the train." I smile.

"Thanks. Let's start with geometry." she says and goes through her bag pulling out her book.
