Chapter Forty Five
Ah'Taria - The Gold District, Phoenix Crest Manor
Ebony waved toward Easley and the children as they headed down the street toward school. Sighing she mumbled to herself, "I have no idea why he's so adamant about me not taken them to school today."
"We have plans," came Jacob's amused reply from behind her.
Pulling her handheld from her pocket she frowned, "I don't see anything on yours or my calendar." Rolling her eyes she closed the door and faced him. "How is it we have plans but there is nothing listed."
"Did you forget last week after the interview with Orchid you promised to accompany me to the solicitor's office," Jacob lied smoothly.
Twisting her lips she remember sitting three seats from the man that had murdered her father and uncle staring blankly at the wall not hearing or seeing anything. Frowning she did remember Kaelen nudging her when it was time for them to vote. "I don't remember," she said walking away from him. "Why would I have agreed to go with you to the solicitor's office?"
Jacob smiled at her back, "Because Isaiah and Celeste were very upset at the damage Mekhi had done and had threatened to have him -."
Shaking her head she stopped walking, "Lucca was responsible for the brunt of the damage so why would Mekhi be threatened or punished?"
Jacob shrugged, "Who knows what they were thinking." Sighing he looked into her violet eyes and chuckled, "I remember when I met you I thought your eyes were a yellowish color."
Ebony pressed her lips together not happy with him changing the direction of the conversation. "Jacob those were contacts and they started to irritate my eyes so I stopped wearing them at the same time I washed the purple dye out my hair."
Jacob chuckled as he reached for a thick black curl, "And I must say that this color suits you better."
Waving his hand away she ignored the warning look in his eyes. "Jacob for the life of me I wonder why I'm still with you."
Jacob grabbed her wrist a little too tightly as he stared into her eyes, "Because you want to be."
Pulling slightly she gave him a small frown that knitted her eyebrows together. "That's not what I mean. Your personality changes every minute; one second you are sweet and kind, the next I feel you'll rip my throat out."
Jacob released her wrist and chuckled, "I like to keep you on your feet."
Laughing at him she shook her head, "And that is why I wonder why I'm still with you. You like to keep me on my feet." Walking toward the stairs she mumbled to herself, "What does that even supposed to mean?"
Jacob rolled his eyes as he made his handheld appear. Pressing a few buttons he checked with Anton that Todd Wesley had agreed to assist in locating Julius Rockefeller. When he saw the confirmation he checked to make sure Caleb Sumter, his family's solicitor, was available and ready with the documents Ebony needed to endorse.
Taking the stairs two at a time he turned and noticed Mekhi's bedroom door open. Walking into the sparingly decorated room he frowned. Ebony was looking around navy and light blue painted room puzzled.
"Why isn't his room decorated as much as Kayo's," she seemed to be asking herself.
Jacob hugged her from behind, "Because we'd just moved in when we had to take care of council business. Kayo's room was decorated by my mom but you had wanted to decorate Mekhi's room yourself remember."
