We followed the RV up a big swerving road deep into the trees. I was staring out the window not wanting to look at my brothers in case they'd change their mind. This was all exciting to me in some ways. Like I finally get to go camping and I get to hang out with new people.

I ne'er got to do these things before the apocalypse. Daryl and Merle were determined to keep me the good kid. The one who never smoked, never drank, and never got in trouble. But that never stopped the beatings I got every time they left me. That's probably why I find it hard to live up to what they want me to be as soon as I do some thing and thought I changed for the better, they always left.

Mom died when I was two all I have left of her were the memories of pictures that were on our walls. that's how I know Daryl looks like her. Maybe my dad was a nice man when mom was still alive. But thats the thing I don't remember him ever being nice. if Daryl and Merle knew he was hurting me they wouldn't leave me there. Well I don't think they would.

"John quit dreaming, we're almost here and you better help us set up our tent when we get there or ill make you hunt your own damned food." Daryl drawled on to me. Merle was sitting in the drivers seat quietly talking to himself about the drugs he kept in his pocket. He's probably high right now. I close my eyes and lean back not wanting to get him angry knowing where that'll go. "Yes Daryl I always help you, you know that" I said innocently and smiled. "Bullshit!" he yelled laughing, I laughed to until I fell asleep.

...

"John, wake up." I heard an unfamiliar voice I opened one eye, Carl! "Hey buddy what's up?" I looked at him drowsily my hair was getting shaggy but the curls kept it in place. "You actually came!" He yelled happily. I smiled but shushed him it was still dangerous. "I know bud but I could never just leave my new friend behind" I smiled he hugged me. I tensed up and looked down at him. Daryl scoffed and pointed to the kid then looked at me. I shrugged and awkwardly patted Carls' back with one hand.

He stepped back and looked at me weird and smiled, "you're funny Dixon." He laughed and ran off to his mom.

I glanced over at Daryl and he had the stupidest smirk on his face. I knew he was gonna bug me. "So your playing Momma bird now, John?" he slapped his knee laughing I pushed him on his ass, now that's something to laugh about.

I ran to the Centre of camp after setting up the tent so I could meet all of the other people. Lori saw me and realized how awkward I looked. She walked over to me and took me to a creepy looking short dude with black hair and brown eyes. "Shane this is John and those are his brothers; I met them on the highway they seemed like good people." she said nicely. "Lori we can't go out in the open and pick up strangers we're not an animal shelter for lost puppies, food's scarce enough as it is." he sighed.

I looked over to him, "We can help with food. We're good at hunting and scavenging we're also good on our feet and with weapons. We can help you guys." I said excitedly not caring what Merle and Daryl will say. "Ok fine, were going on a run and we need someone to go hunting, let your brothers know." he replied to me, I could tell he used to be a big authority before this happened by the way he controlled the group and the way they looked up to him.

"Daryl, bro were going huntin'." I said excitedly. "and Merle can go a run to Atlanta they leave tomorrow" Daryl shot me a glare. I pretend to cower and sink into the bushes "Oh no!!! Not the Glare of Fire please don't kill me, kind sir." I laughed and he pushed me the rest of the way into the bush. "Fine, but your tellin' Merle" he smirked. shit.

"Merle buddy ol' pal" I patted him on the shoulder. He stared at me. "What you want baby brudder". "Could you go on a run to Atlanta? Merle, please I want these people to trust us and let us stay but we have to help out, me and Daryl are going huntin'." I begged "Ya I'll go. I need some fresh air and some time to get to the ladies" he winked. I gagged "Only dem walker ladies." I mumbled ''What you say boy?" Merle stared at me.

"Nothin." I shouted as I was running away "You leave tomorrow!"

I ran into Shane "Me and Daryl are goin' huntin' and Merle said he'd go on a run with ya tomorrow." I said out of breath from running. "Ok thanks, go meet the rest of the group, son" he suggested.

I started walking towards the fire in the middle of the camp. It seemed split into three smaller camps, the people no one talked to, the ones that Shane and Lori always talked to, and then Sofia, her mom and a fat ugly man telling them what to do. That wasn't right and I hated that man as soon as I saw him. He reminded me of my dad and in that instant I felt bad for Sophia.
