Mia waited for the others to make sure Clary was alright as she continued to stare off into the darkness that Jonathan had disappeared into.
"You shouldn't have attacked Sebastian like that. You didn't even have a weapon. What were you thinking?" Mia heard Jace saying towards Clary, of course.
"What we were all thinking." Alec, unexpectedly went to Clary's defence. "That he'd just thrown you through the air like a softball. Jace, I've never seen anyone but Mia get the better of you like that."
"I-he surprised me," Jace said, a little reluctantly. "He must have had some kind of special training. I wasn't expecting it."
"Yeah, well. I think he kicked in a couple of my ribs. It's okay," Simon said. Simply adding the last part for Clary, no doubt. "They're healing. But Sebastian's definitely strong, really strong," he paused. "How long do you think he was standing there in the shadows?"
"Well, the Clave will catch him-and curse him, probably. I'd like to see them put the same curse on him they put on Hodge. That would be poetic justice."
"Hey. Mia, how are you holding up? He was your boyfriend and all." Simon suddenly spoke. She turned around and slowly made her way towards them.
"You mean, Mia, what was that? How did you not know that your boyfriend was a spy for Valentine?" I corrected and they all looked at each other. I had to lie in order to avoid the mortal sword. "I didn't. He always told me the truth but I never thought he could be a spy so I never questioned it. I guess he took it as, well she never questions it so it's not lying. That I know for sure is how he thinks. I asked him once why he never spoke much about his past and his answer was, you never asked so I figured I didn't have to." I explained and luckily they seemed to believe it.
Simon turned aside and spat into the bushes. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, his face twisted into a grimace. "His blood tastes foul-like poison."
"I suppose we can add that to his list of charming qualities," Jace said. "I wonder what else he was up to tonight." he added, and Mia didn't miss that look he gave her. It wasn't a teasing one that said he was joking. It was also a look that said he knew that his big sister was keeping something.
"We need to get back to the hall." Alec reminded. "Can you walk, Clary?"
"I can walk. What about Hodge? We can't just leave him."
Mia sighed. "I'll see you guys there." she said as she made her way back alone. She ran in to see Isabelle with Maryse and Robert, Max holding onto them. Mia ran through the crowd towards them and attacked her parabatai in a hug. "Thank the angel you're okay." she sobbed as they hugged each other tightly.
"I don't even know what happened. I came down and Sebastian just attacked me. I woke up to a bad headache and my parents surrounding me. I thought something had happened to you and Max but Max was here with Magnus." Isabelle explained.
Mia wiped the tears that ran down her face and smiled. "I'm just glad you're okay. I sent Max to safety before anything happened so I wasn't that worried about him but you're my parabatai." Mia explained to Isabelle who smiled as tears rolled down her face.
   "Where's Jace and Alec?"
"They're on their way back with Clary and Simon."
Izzy nodded. "They're here," she said and a moment later Jace and Alec came running through the crowd towards them.
Alec embraced Isabelle and Max first and then Jace joined in. Mia decided that she needed some time to herself and went outside to see them counting the dead. There were so many and she felt tears falling. It all felt like her fault. She punched a wall and ignored the pain that shot through her arm as she cried. "Damn you Jonathan Morgenstern," she muttered so no one could hear her. It all made her feel like her heart was being ripped from her chest. "Why can't I hate you," she muttered, her back sliding down the wall slowly to sit on the floor as dawn approached. Suddenly someone came running out to stand on the steps. As the horizon became streaked with red fire Mia realized it was Clary. There was no missing her fiery red hair. Luckily Clary didn't see Mia sitting there, not knowing if she regretted the past couple of days or not.

Jonathan

Jonathan watched as the girl he loved tore herself apart inside. He secretly despised himself for all of this. Mia didn't deserve to feel like all of this was her fault, but he knew that she did. He had to get her away from the Clave. They would target her since she had been in a relationship with Sebastian. The good one, but no one here had ever met the real Sebastian, they had only ever had the pleasure of meeting Jonathan. Would Mia run away with him? Would she trust him again? He needed her to. He really did. It was getting brighter outside, he had to go so he wouldn't be caught.
Once he made it back to the cave, his father marched towards him. "How dare you hesitate! I have told you multiple times before and I will tell you again! Love is a weakness! She does not love you and she never will! Who could love a monster like you! You sickening creature!" Valentine yelled at him. Jonathan had to keep it together. He needed to wait it out, but that didn't mean that as soon as Valentine was done screaming his head off that he couldn't go back to the place where it all began. The place where he met Mia, where he had enjoyed fragments of his childhood. To his surprise he found her there too.
