Alex's pov

It has been another full day at the bakeshop cafe. Aunt Eliza left me the task of closing up, said she's going to meet a couple of friends for dinner. I cleaned up and double checked everything.

"Hey Alex? I got to go now...you okay with that?"

I heard Mike call out. Other than myself, he's the last of the crew left.

"Yeah, cool...see you tomorrow," I called back from the counter.

"Thanks...g'night,"

Mike left and when I was done double checking everything, I punched in the security code, locked all the doors and left.

I was on my way to the bus stop, when I saw Maggie skateboarding her way through evening traffic. I called out to her to say hi.

She didn't see me first, but she sure heard me because she's looking around. The second time I called out, way louder this time, she saw me, crossed the street on her skateboard like a daredevil not minding the passing vehicles. It made me nervous.

"What's up, Danvers..." She said as she halted her four wheel ride minus the steering wheel in front of me.

"You crazy or something... You almost hit the car,"

"Contrary to that... I was cruisin' through those fancy cars... Going somewhere?"

"Yep...home. You? If your not cruisin' through fancy cars, where would you be?"

"At the port..."

"Port?" She lives at the port?

"Uh-huh..."

"Why? Do you live there?"

"Nope...I watch fireworks there,"

"Why would there be fireworks at the port? Is there some sort of city fair thingy out there or something?"

"Those fancy boats with fancy parties in them do the fireworks. Its kinda fun watching it I do it every time..."

"Oh...can I come and see?" I said. I kinda like fireworks too.

"Uhm...I don't see why not," Maggie said. " Do you know how to skateboard?"

"You just skateboard your way to the port!? Because I am so not riding that thing..."

"I can teach you...well, I guess let's just take the bus then..." She suggested.

Next bus stopped in front of us. After dropping off passengers, Maggie and I went aboard. I messaged Aunt Eliza and Kara I'd be late so they won't worry.

Its not like me to do spur of the moment decisions. I'm usually a planner with my parents' approval. I don't go about without planning or consulting either mom or dad, but since I decided to run away and make decisions on my own, I almost always get to do what I want when I want with whoever I want. Right now, that's just what I did and its liberating.
