Mike's pov
I just finished my shift at the bakeshop and I was on my way home when Megan from the Dive Bar texted me my mom was making a scene again, wasted. Its really irritating to keep doing this. Before it was depressing, sure, now its just outright pissing me off. But, she's still my mom and I can't leave her just like that.
So, off I went to fetch mom. Its not that far, I could've walked the distance but I got to rush before mom gets herself into any more trouble so I waited for the bus. I was standing staring at nothing when I saw Kara from across the street. I don't know but I kinda felt my heart skip a beat, I mean she's really pretty and just looking at her makes me smile. Little brightside to my gloomy life.
I wonder if I should call out or just watch her walk by. As I try to decide which, she saw me and she gave me a little smile and a little wave. Something fluttered in my stomach. This is crazy, I'm starting to act like Kevin Arnold in Wonder Years. This is so not me. Then, Kara crossed the street, going straight ahead towards me. I think I froze where I stand.
"Hey,"She said.
"Hey..."I mimicked.
"Shift over just now?" she asked.
"Hey..." I said feeling stupid, "I mean yes...yes, just closed up. I-I mean Alex was closing up,"
"Hmn...okay," she said smiling. She's really pretty. I wanted to ask for her phone number, heck, I want to ask her out, I just don't know how.
"Uhm...so, where you going now?" How about I try to make a little conversation, then smoothly slide in the idea of asking her out for a coffee, maybe lunch...I don't know, I'm getting nervous.
"Home..." she replied. I was like can you take me home with you, but that's just in my head.
"Me too..." Damn, I'm really out of my game. I don't know what to do or say and I really want to ask her out. Then my phone buzzed. I checked to see its Megan again saying mom's throwing up in some corner, somebody has to take her home now. Well, so much for getting myself a date with Kara.
"Your girlfriend?" Kara said nodding to my phone.
"What?...No, nope. No girlfriend, just friend. A girl friend, a female friend, not a girlfriend girlfriend..." I said sort of panicking, I might've sounded stupid, she chuckled.
"Its okay, Mike...well, I must go. Got homework and stuff..." She said as she went to ride the bus that stopped in front of us. "See you around, bye..."
I'll be damned, its not just I missed my chance of asking for her number, I might've just also missed any chance of going out with her. Wait, I think I also missed the bus to the dive bar! Crap. Well, my life's full of it anyway, so what else is new. But I wanna be positive here. I might see Kara again and I am so not going to blow my chance again.

Kara's pov
I was walking in our street on my way home with the Chinese take out. Mom's with friends, Alex said she'll be late and our home phone's acting up again so instead of ordering in, I went to go get myself a takeout. I was right outside our house when I couldn't help myself look up at Lena's window.
Her lights were on but I can't see her silhouette, I wonder what and how she was doing. I missed being near her, even though I've spent time with her almost the entire day, so I decided to send her a message inviting her to join me in my humbled dinner.
"Psst!!" I looked up away from my phone to see Lena leaning by her window, with her hair down and in her pastel green nightdress. She kinda looked hot, and before I know it, I'm smiling ear to ear like an idiot.
"What's in the box, pretty girl?" she said teasingly crossing her arms.
"Some dumplings and seafood stir fry...want some?"
"I already ate dinner, but if its shrimp and crab, I'm all in..."
"Its shrimp with vegetables stir fry noodles and crab meat dumplings, so...what are you waiting for up there, gorgeous?" I teased back.
"Hang on...I'll be down in a sec," She went back in only to come back out through her window, wearing a blue over sized hoodie covering her nightdress underneath and white unlaced sneakers. Now she both looked hot and cute at the same time. She tiptoed her way from their roof to climb down by the tree. She looked stealthy like those SWAT team guys on Tv, kinda dangerous too because she could've fallen from that height and got hurt. But she landed on the ground steadily and quietly like a cat would.
"What's with the American-Ninja-Warrior-style climb back there? Don't you have doors in your house?" I said.
"Mom's in the living room listening to some audio book, waiting for dad..."
"Oh..." Not sure what else to say. It's a very delicate matter where Lena's family is involved."Well, seems like you're not sleepy yet, how about we share this scrumptious dinner I've got from Cho Chang's Cuisine..."
"It's already late, Kara, how come you haven't had dinner yet?" She asked as we went inside the empty house.
"I lost track of time, I was making this acoustic cover for a couple songs and I didn't realize its already late until Mom and Alex texted me, so..."
"What songs were you making a cover of?"
"Some song you probably think as lame,"
"I love listening to you sing, its never lame,Kara"
"Uhm...well, It's called Pink Skies by Lany and Falling in by Lifehouse"
"I'm not sure if I heard those songs, can you sing it for me?"
"Sure, but first can we eat?...I'm starving,"
We went straight to the kitchen and Lena helped me set the food on plates. Then we ate, she only had the dumplings, said while she liked both shrimp and crab she liked the crab better. We talked some more about stuff and goofed around some.
Later on we finished, eating, goofing and cleaning up. We talked some more by the porch. Then she asked me again if she can listen to the song I just made a cover of. So I took out my old guitar and sang Lifehouse's Falling in.
Lena listened to every lyrics of the song not breaking eye contact with me. More like, I'm the one trying to keep her gaze because I felt like confessing my true feelings for her through the song. Afterall, its for her, so might as well take this little chance of showing her how I feel. Not flat out, downright smack confession, but just a little subtle, in case she might not feel the same way as I do. Well, she might not really feel the same because I know she sees me as a friend...just a friend.
For a moment, I was transported back to that dream where Mrs. Luthor asked me what am I to her daughter. I answered friend, but I know in myself I wanted to be more than that. I wanted more...
