Madison managed to pick herself up, even though she was still shaking. She grabbed a small mirror to look at her new wound. It looked as bad as it felt. Her cheek hurt worse than any past injury she had endured. She wiped it with a tissue before packing her school bag.

Once her homework and everything else was packed she hurried down the stairs. Her mum wasn't in the kitchen so she just wrote a note and put it on the table. "Dear Mum, I'm going to spend the night at Alice's, sincerely your daughter Madison."

Next she simply started walking to her friend's house. It was only a couple blocks away, which Madison found very cool.

Alice had been Madison's best friend since grade two. She was nicest person Madison knew. Her hair was red, long, and insanely curly. To make her even more noticeable she happened to have bright green eyes. The girl was calm and always full of hope which made her good best friend material to Madison.

Within six minutes Madison arrived at her best friend's house. It was larger than Madison's home but it wasn't that big considering Alice had three brothers and a sister. The oldest was her brother Adam at seventeen, then her sister Mary at sixteen; next herself at twelve, Ezra at ten, and the youngest was Isaiah at nine. Madison knocked at the door.

Almost immediately the door opened to show Alice's dad. He was tall; he had been much taller than Madison's dad. His hair had already become quite grey. Unlike Alice his eyes weren't green, but blue instead. Like his daughter he was very kind and always full of hope. Madison's mum was good friends with him, they'd grown up together.

Madison suddenly remembered what Dr. Fox had said, "Some of the people I talk to say their monsters can't come in. We have decided it's probably because this building was once a church, so as I say, evil thoughts have trouble entering," he told her. That was why Noir had never managed to join her at Alice's. No Alice's house didn't used to be a church, but her dad was a priest. That had to be the reason she'd always been safe at their house.

"Madison you're hurt, what happened to your cheek?" Alice's dad questioned.

Madison hesitated in thought, "I was running in the woods with Andrew and I ran into a branch."

"Well come on let's clean it up then," he led her to the dining room where Alice was working on her homework.

"What happened?" Alice asked.

"Just a branch," Madison stated as Alice looked to her father who just nodded slightly.

"I'll be right back girls, why don't you sit down Madison," he explained.

"Your house is quiet today," Madison said once Alice's father had left.

"Adam is on a study date, Mary has a driving lesson, and Ezra and Isaiah are playing in the field," Alice replied.

"So it isn't crazy here for once," Madison laughed.

"Yep," Alice chuckled.

Mr. Jackson re-entered the room and sat down. He had grabbed a first aid kit. There was very obviously something on his mind, yet still neither of the girls noticed.

"This may sting a bit," he murmured gently as wiped the cut with an antiseptic wipe.

Once it was clean the cause became obvious, at least obviously not a branch. Luckily the wound wasn't deep and didn't need stitches. It had already stopped bleeding as well. After it was clean Mr. Jackson was looking even more worried.

"Alice why don't you help your Mum finish up dinner," her dad suggested.

Alice nodded and went through the door to the kitchen. Madison wasn't sure about this situation, it was certainly new. He seemed to be trying to find words. She couldn't bare the silence anymore, so she started to get up.

"Please sit Madison," he stated.

"Alright," she mumbled.

He hesitated, "Madison how did you really get that cut?"

Madison didn't say a thing. She had no idea what she could say. Her mum and family couldn't get in trouble because of her. How could she let anyone get in trouble? There was certainly no way she could claim responsibility either. To blame Noir would be foolish, how could he possibly believe her. She knew he was open minded, but she doubted he was that open minded. Then again what if he did believe her, he could surely help. If he didn't believe her he could stop Alice from spending time with her. Plus their house was safe and didn't have specific hours like the clinic.

Her brain told her that she had to tell him what was going on. Sure it was an insanely large risk, but sometimes you've got to take risks. She was willing to risk losing Alice, they weren't extremely close. Anyways she had made up her mind.

"Madison did someone cut you?" he asked quietly.

"Kind of, I don't know that you'll believe me though," Madison stated.

"Madison, I am very open minded, give me a chance," he smiled slightly.

"Prince Noir did it; he got mad when I answered Alice's call. He started to choke me so I stabbed his hand with my pencil, he let go but then he clawed my face. Prince Noir is like the embodiment of evil, he wants me to suffer until he kills me. When I went to a psychiatrist this morning he was upset because he couldn't enter the place, turns out it used to be a church. He can't come in your house either. I don't know what he is just that he's pure evil. He's taller than you, he looks like a three d shadow, his eyes glow red and he has sharp teeth and claws. I don't think you'll believe me but it's worth a shot," Madison spoke quickly.

"Could he be a demon?" he asked, intrigued.

"Sure," Madison stated.

"I believe you Madison," he nodded.

"You do?" Madison asked.

"Yes, I do," he smiled at her softly.

"Do you have any advice?" she asked.

"I'll tell you what I'll do a bunch of research tonight and we'll talk about it tomorrow morning," he explained.

"Can you not tell Alice, I don't want her dealing with this," Madison pleaded.

"Sure," said Mr. Jackson.

"Dinner's ready!" Alice exited the kitchen and the two girls went to wash up.

A/N: Sorry for the long wait. I'm not dead so this book will continue despite the wishes of Todd. The spider trapped me in a web but I escaped. Unfortunately to the wrong closet, but I have returned now.

There was quite a lot of procrastinating, but mostly I was busy. As I'm taking part in a competition there is a lot of focus on it. I've completed 39 of 55 challanges. I'm only doing a few more so I'm back on track. Though I am going on a vacation for a couple days now so... Anyways I haven't given up yet. This chapter is going to be split in two, originally that was not the plan. There should be another chapter in the next week.
