It was a more quiet and somber day spent in the treehouse. It lacked the loud excitement of Teddy's laughs or Vern's cheerful chatter. Instead of Gordie's books or comics lounging around the floor of the treehouse, it was neatly stacked in the corner.

For some reason, the boy's had other obligations and weren't there. It was rare that the group was separated, but it didn't happen at times like today. Until they return, it was just you and Chris Chambers.

It was an uncomfortable silence as Christ shuffled through a standard 52 card deck. You, on the other hand, read Catcher in the Rye, but kept gazing up to look at Chris.

There was undeniable tension between you two, and it was hard. Developing feelings for a Chambers kid wasn't what you planned, especially when your parents disapproved of his family. But you did anyway, and it wasn't unrequited. In fact, Chris thought you were the most beautiful girl in Castle Rock.

But the moment you glanced up again from your book, your eyes met Chris' blue eyes and felt yourself blush. The smell of Chris' cigarette made you cough, feeling more nervous than before.

"[Name]..." Chris spoke out, feeling skittish himself. He couldn't allow this to go on, he had to confess or it'll drive him crazy.

"Yes, Chris?" You mumbled, averting your eyes from his piercing and enchanting eyes.

"I think I love you, even though I'm not quite sure what love is. I don't want you avoid me anymore." Chris revealed, making gasp softly. Sure, you knew he liked you, but love was a whole another ballgame.

"But my parents..." You spoke indistinctly, feeling jittery in fear but also in excitement. He said liked you back, and you never felt more happy. You also felt fear, mostly because of what your parents would say.

"I know it sounds scary, even I'm scared.  It's going to be hard, but as long as we're together, it'll be okay." Chris reassured, giving you a dazzling smile, his cigarette in between index and middle finger.

"Okay–Together–I like the sound of that." You gaily uttered, feeling dazed because you weren't really alone anymore.

"And I love you." He cheekily replied, taking another drag of his cigarette.

You simply grinned back at him. Even with the opposition that came with dating Chris Chambers, you couldn't had been anymore happier. You were young and in love.
