RIVER SIMPLY felt so lost and helpless, and the more he glanced at you, the further he fell into this abyss. An abyss of jealousy so green, it was appalling to think about. Envy coated his heart, filling in the cracks in between.
He knew he couldn't force you to love, or anyone else to love him. But River still couldn't help but to wish one day you'd realize his love and consider him. Until then, he's satisfied just being your friend.
Even if he shattered into bits and pieces when he saw you cry over another man, or the joy he saw on your face when it wasn't caused by him. It made him so inadequate, so insecure. He would give you anything but that wasn't enough. Someone was always a step ahead of him when it came to you, and he was emotionally draining.
River continued to stare at the picture frame of the two of you, his throat tighten and sore from resisting the urge to cry. But even those lousy attempts couldn't stop the hot tears that hit the frame's glass, running down the picture.
Tomorrow, you were marrying another man, and he would have to watch with a faux smile. Oh, how he wished he had you. He wasn't emotionally or mentally prepared to see you walk down the altar for another man.
"Why don't you just love on? You might find the one." Wil, an old friend and ex-costar, suggested to him one day.
And River smiled, but it simply didn't match the hollow look in his eyes, "I did find the one but she's in love with another person. Until I fall out of love with her, no one can simply compare."
Even as he stares at the picture, he still mumbles to himself, his voice raspy, "I love you, [Name]. No one can compare."
