YOU WERE LOOKING for Donnie Darko. His mother let you in, telling you he recently returned from his therapy session. You were hoping he was interested in watching a rerun of the Evil Dead later.
"Donnie?" You called out softly, entering his bedroom. The blinds were closed, and the room was dim. Donnie sat on his bed, staring into space.
"Donnie?" You repeated again, sitting down next to the dark haired boy, but leaving a gap of distance. He seemed so emotional distress, yet you weren't sure what to say to him.
"I don't want to be alone." Donne quietly tells you, and your heart felt like it snapped. The way Donne mumbled those words felt so heartbreaking, it made you want to relate to him more but you couldn't.
However, you would try your hardest to be with him and support him, after all, he's your the closest thing to a best friend. You think you love him but you aren't too sure what love is. But if it felt anything like you felt around Donnie, then you were sure you were in love with him.
"You aren't alone, Donnie. I'm for you—until the end—I promise." You whisper to him, and you aren't sure whether to touch him or not in reassurance. You didn't want to offend him, in fact, you felt quite lost.
Donnie gives you a weak smile, which you responded with a small grin of your own. He takes your hand into his, realizing how petite you were. Your soft hands were small compared to his calloused hands, but it felt right, being with you for the moment.
"I believe you." Donnie tells you, lying through his teeth. He tried convincing himself, using your words, that he wasn't alone with Frank. Even Roberta Sparrow's words lingered in the back of his head. But for a moment, your comfort lulled him into a sense of reassurance and comfort. The moment of peace was enough for him to enjoy your presence.
You squeeze his hand a little tighter, "I'm glad, Donnie. I care about you."
He cared about you, so he'll try to spend and cherish this moments he had with you before the world ends. So, he asked you, "Do you want to watch the Evil Dead later this week?"
"That's funny, I came up here to ask you the same thing!" You giggled out, feeling the tension roll off your back.
Donnie decided he wanted to be with you until the end of the world—if Frank allowed it, that is.
