YOU HAVE BEEN Corey's best friend since the summer going into 7th grade, and you've stuck by him through thick and thin. It was a beautiful friendship, and Corey couldn't ask for more.
His favorite adventures always consisted of you and him, riding your bikes with each other anywhere that seemed interesting. But as Corey became older and mature, his feelings towards you were starting to change as well. It wasn't a necessarily bad, except Corey had no idea how to accept the fact he was in love with his best friend—who was also a boy.
It was a long process of self-discover, reaccepting, and loving himself. It was hard for Corey though, after all, not everyone was kind to gay or bisexual people. Corey was deathly afraid of telling you his feelings, or his sexuality, because of you reaction. He couldn't lose you, you were his rock, his everything.
So, he simply hid his feelings because he rather be friends with you than not be with you at all. It hurts but it's worth seeing your smile everyday. So, he'll endure for now.
"I'm so tired, Corey." You tell him one day. You're both sitting side-by-side on the curb on a empty suburban street. It was a warmer day, and school had just ended about thirty minutes ago.
"What's wrong, [Name]?" Corey inquires, feeling a wave of concern wash over him.
"It's Jeffery and his little posse, they won't stop harassing me. It's just so physically and emotionally exhausting to deal with them." You revealed, sighing heavily. An ounce of stress rolled off your back now that Corey knows.
But Corey felt enraged, why would someone make your day a living hell? You were wonderful!
This revelation lead to this moment. A loud crowd surrounded Corey and Jeffery, meanwhile you were trying to end the fight. However, your efforts became fruitless after the punch Corey threw at Jeff.
The fight didn't end until a vice-principal came shouting from down the hall. You didn't see Corey until after school, which left you worried sick. But at least you knew Jeff had his ass kicked, and you didn't feel a bit sorry for him.
"Corey! Dude, your eye is swollen!" You exclaim in shock, when you see him after school. You hurry into the kitchen, fetching an ice pack and painkillers.
He sits down on your couch, thanking you when you hand him the pill and ice pack. Sitting beside your best friend, you ask,"Why did you jump in, Corey?"
"[Name], I wasn't going to let that idiot insult you in front of me. You deserve kindness and respect, not anything Jeff or his little friends do to you." Corey tells you, holding the ice pack to his eye.
He was right, but Corey didn't have to get himself suspended for you.
"I just feel so bad." You admit.
"Don't. I–well, I would've done it for you anyways. I like you too much to stand by when people hurt you." Corey confesses, looking embarrassed and flushed.
You blink a few times, letting the confession sink in.
"You like me? As in, you'd go on dates with me?" You questioned, feeling shocked but not disgusted. In fact, the confession made you evaluate your own feelings towards Corey. You wouldn't mind going on dates with Corey, kissing him, or holding his hand.
If anything, it seemed to feel right.
"Yeah, I do. I'm sorry, I kno—" Corey begins to ramble, but you cut him off.
"I'm not disgusted, Corey. In fact, I'm far from it. I like you too." You confess, giving a bright and reassuring smile.
"I'm so glad." Corey says, giving a sigh of relief and a grin.
You simply responded, ''me too," before pulling your best friend, and now boyfriend, into a kiss. How did you get so lucky?
