KEANU TRULY had liked you. Every time he saw you, he couldn't help but to feel a swarm of butterflies flutter in his stomach. It sounds cheesy but he really admired you. So, he gathered the confidence to ask you out for homecoming.
He wasn't too sure how to ask someone out to homecoming, let alone you, so he tried his best. He bought flowers, after all, who doesn't appreciate a bouquet? Keanu practiced what he was going to say, pushing aside any nervousness he had in himself. He could do this! He will do this!
But you walked into the next period he had with you, wearing a humongous grin and with a bouquet of roses. It wasn't the bouquet of flowers Keanu held, oh no, and this led him to one conclusion: it was too late. Keanu was too late, someone had already asked you out, and his chance was out the window.
"Are you asking someone out, Keanu?" You ask him, sitting beside him. Of course, you had to sit right next to him. For once, he just wanted to get away from you. The indirect and subtle rejection hurt way too much, and Keanu wasn't sure if he could endure it.
"She didn't show up today at school." Keanu lies, glancing away from you. You didn't detect the lie, instead, you simply frowned. The roses were rested neatly at the corner of your desk, and it felt like they were mocking him.
"That's sad. Hopefully, she'll show up tomorrow! Who is it?" You inquire, trying to sound optimistic, but it just made Keanu feel more sick.
"Yeah, maybe." Keanu replied, avoiding to answer, and soon after that, class was in session. There was no other girl, that was simply a ruse because no one could compare to you. You were his friend, and you were so sweet and kind, not to mention you were hilarious! Who wouldn't fall for you?
Saturday night came, and Keanu simply stayed home. Keanu figured you wouldn't notice, especially when you were having such a great time with your date, Rob. Keanu gave the bouquet to his mother instead, and she greatly appreciated them. They currently sit in a vase in the kitchen, reminding him every time how much it hurts to feel alone.
Keanu really had hoped his senior year would had been different, and he would manage to win over the girl. But he learned it was too late, and after all, who would date him? You wouldn't. He would respect that, no matter how much it hurts him to see with happy with another person.
