Chapter 13:

Thirty minutes until he gets here. I only have thirty minutes to calm my nerves before Ben comes to pick me up. I have no idea why I'm so anxious, he's the one who's asking for another chance. But I just am. I always needed to be perfect for Ben and I guess that is returning in round two as well.

This morning I went out to buy a new dress after he texted me. He said it was day formal but with him formal is a little different. Me and Ben both came from well off families, I guess you could say we were the elite of London. My mother still had a pretty good grip on me while me and Ben were together so she pretty much influenced my outfit decisions.

It was tons of pearl necklaces, cardigans, preppy dresses, and tights. Think along the lines of Blair Waldorf. I wasn't a big fan but Bens parents adored me for it, so did he. Ben was obsessed with the finer things in life. He used to call me his most valuable possession.

I purchased a structured yellow sundress that falls high on my neckline and placed a pearl necklace over it. I then slipped into some elegant heels and pinned my curls into a bun. I don't feel like myself at all, but I really want to impress Ben.

"You look different." Niall lazily walks into the room, chewing on a granola bar.

"Wow, thanks a ton." I roll my eyes at him.

"It wasn't an insult, Jesus." He says.

"Kinda sounded like one. And no I actually don't look different I've dressed this way for eighteen years." I smooth out my dress.

"Oh, well I wouldn't know that." He shrugs and begins to walk upstairs but he stops on the second step and turns around, "Oh I get it, you're trying to impress him. Well he must be a really understanding guy if you have to dress like a snob to get him to like you."

He laughs at me in an antagonistic manner that sets my teeth on edge.

"That's ridiculous, he's very understanding. The only one who's being a judgmental arse here is you!" I say louder than him. He's being so rude to me. He's calling me a snob...where did this all come from?

"Yeah, whatever. He already has you wrapped around his finger and it's been what like fifteen hours? It's amazing how quick you are to change everything in order to keep the jerk who broke your heart happy. That really seems like a logical-"

"Enough!" I scream at him, "I get that you don't approve of him but you don't have to hurt me in the process Niall! Why are you attacking me? Why do you feel the need to hurt me every chance you get?!"

He looks stunned as he tries to recover from my statement.

"I didn't-" He begins to stutter.

"Forget it! Leave!" I interrupt him again and point towards where he was headed. He obeys.

I huff and slump against the door. I'm not even surprised honestly. I'm actually beginning to expect this sort of behavior from him, it's just frustrating. But I'm not going to let it bother me.

I wait patiently by the door so Ben doesn't have to come inside, I really don't need anyone else's criticism. And that's when I see a black car pull up and Ben step out of the backseat.

I quickly make my way down the stairs to greet him. He pulls me into a hug.

"God you look lovely. I tell you 'day formal', which is probably the vaguest thing ever, and you pull it off perfectly." He compliments me.

"Thank you, you look dashing yourself." I reply. He's wearing tan slacks with a light blue button up shirt and a yellow tie which happens to match my dress. He leads me by the arm into the car.
