A New Threat (Kid Icarus Fan Fic)

10. True Light

"What do you mean I possess True Light?" I asked. I was still confused.

"It means you have a pure heart. You were born to counter Samuel, who possesses True Darkness. That's why he wants you dead. You are the biggest threat to him out of everybody in this room." Margret explained. "Which is why he tried to poison you as a child. He was trying to prevent your powers from developing. But he only made them worse. You have no training. Your powers are violent, chaotic, and unpredictable. I have a feeling Palutena's powers as the goddess of light, keep yours in check."

"What do you mean 'keep in check'" I asked.

"Her powers overpower yours, which in turn hides them from everyone. Without Palutena keeping them in check, you would have lost control of them and that can be disastrous." Margret said. "I mean look at Samuel, Minka, and I. Samuel is trying to destroy them world, Minka plunged the area around the North Mountains into an eternal winter, and I causes extremely violent tropical storms in the area around the South Beach, at least once every couple days. The only reason you haven't caused a disaster, is because Palutena's been hiding your powers."

"I have to admit, she's right." Lady Palutena said. "That's part of the reason I took you in. I saw what you were. I saw what your siblings were, and what they were doing, intentionally and unintentionally. I saw why your brother wanted you dead. I had to protect you and keep you hidden. So I've been using my powers to suppress your powers of True Light. Nobody would think it's strange if light magic is being used in Skyworld."

"But Minka, Margret. If you two have been alive and knew what I possessed, why didn't you tell me?" I asked.

"It was too dangerous. Not only have we been watching you, but Samuel was too. It was too dangerous to tell you anything. We couldn't risk Samuel attacking you. Everything Margret and I have done was to keep you safe." Minka said.

"But why?" I asked.

"Because." Margret said. "We love you, you're our brother. And you are the only way to defeat Samuel. True Light must counter True Darkness."

"Wait." Viridi said. "If Samuel was born an angel, how come he has True Darkness? How can he be evil?"

"Samuel was born an angel, that much is true." Minka said. "He was born with True Darkness. He was born evil. We don't know how he was born evil, he just was. Margret and I saw it. His favorite thing to do as a child was torture small animals. Rabbits, birds, mice, cats, rats, and others. I remember going to the basement cutting a rabbit's limbs off while the poor creature was still alive. Another time he caught the neighbor's cat on fire, then asked if it trying to catch another angels wings on fire would work. He's always been fascinated with burning things to death and cutting things apart. He just was born evil."

"Sounds worse than me." Hades commented. "And that's saying something. I started a war between the gods and am responsible for the deaths of millions of people."

"For once Hades is right." Lady Palutena said.

"Let me finish." Minka said. "Well mother got pregnant with Pit, which caused Samuel's behavior to get worse. The day after Pit was born, Samuel pushed Margret off the edge of the City of Angels, causing her to become a fallen angel. Samuel hated Pit the second he was born. At the time we didn't know why, but now it's obvious. Samuel poisoned Pit to prevent his powers from developing. The poison almost killed him. Then he pushed me and caused me to become a fallen angel.Pit jumped and I used my powers over the winter and caught him on a winter wind. And the rest you know."

"So Lady Palutena, does this mean I have to fight my own brother?" I asked.

"Of course Pit." Lady Palutena replied. "You're the only one who can defeat him. And we can't necessarily let him run around destroying the world."

"So I don't have a choice?" I asked.

"No, not really." Viridi said.

"Don't worry Pit, you won't be fighting alone." Violet assured me.
