12. Nymphs Are Crazy

It was decided I'd go convince the nymphs to become my allies first. Lady Palutena said they'd be the easiest to convince. And I'd have a better chance of getting the Downworlders and the Olympians as allies, if I already had the nymphs as allies. But not all nymphs are friendly. I know this from experience.

The Maenads, for example. They are Dionysus's followers, and they are crazy and extremely vicious. They will rip you limb for limb if you aren't either Dionysus or his followers. Supposedly, Dionysus hates them, but if you harm them he'll curse you in some horrible way. Or so I've heard. I've never actually encountered them, nor do I want to.

Most nymphs are experienced fighters. If you defile their life source or insult them, they'll attack you. I was going to Viridi's domain, since nymphs are natural things, like trees, rocks, bodies of water, flowers, grasses, soil, clouds, and bushes. The only problem was how I'm getting there. I can't use the Power of Flight, thanks to Samuel. Lady Palutena and Viridi were discussing it. Finally Viridi came out.

"We figured out how to get you to my domain, since you can't use the Power of Flight." she said.

"How am I getting there?" I asked.

"You remember the Lightning Chariot?" she asked. I nodded. "Well Pittoo's going to be returning it, so you can use that. Meanwhile Palutena will be providing Pittoo with the Power of Flight and I will be guiding you."

"Why?" I asked.

"Because it's my domain. And nymphs can be dangerous." she said. "And you don't exactly have the best diplomatic skills." There was a thudding noise outside. "That'll be Pittoo."

I grabbed my bow and walked outside. Pittoo was holding the reins to Phos and Lux. He looked like he'd be through hell and back. I saw Margret's hurricane and knew immediately that he had gone through that.

"I got attacked by your brother. Then I had to go through your sister's hurricane." he said. "But anyway, here's the Lightning Chariot."

"What were you even doing?" I asked.

"I was trying to find out where your brother was hiding." he said. "Good luck. You're gonna need it."

I grabbed the reins and took off. Margret parted the storm to allow me through. Viridi was guiding the chariot. After awhile the chariot landed in the middle of a forest. Phosphora took the reins from me. There was a girl by the stream. She had blue hair and wore a blue dress that looked like it was made from part of the stream. I approached her.

"Hi." I said. "I'm Pit, servant of Palutena."

"I'm River." she said. "I'm the nymph of this stream. What is the servant of the goddess of light doing in the domain of the goddess of nature?"

"Lady Palutena and Viridi have formed a temporary alliance. I here to form an alliance with the nymphs." I replied.

"That's a difficult job, considering we don't agree on alliances." she said. "I mean, we nymphs can be insane. Sometimes I think we're all related to the Maenads."

Some girls came into the clearing. They wore red and purple robes and a wreath of wine grapes on their heads. They carried sticks with pinecones on them and goblets filled with what looked like wine. They were giggling and carrying on.

"Hide!" Viridi yelled. I climbed a tree. "They are Maenads. DO NOT ATTACK THEM! Dionysus will curse you."

"So where do you think he's hiding?" one of them asked.

"I don't know Sabrina, but for a forest, there sure are a of lack nymphs." another said.

"Look! In that tree!" one cried. They came over to the tree I was hiding in. Uh-oh!

"Lord Dionysus, is that you?" Sabrina asked.

"Pretend you are." Viridi said.

"Yes, it's me." I said. "I am Dionysus, god of wine, parties, and craziness."

"OMG! It's you!" one screamed.

"Sign my goblet." another said.

"Back off, Kelly! I saw him first!" someone else yelled.

"Wait a minute!" Sabrina yelled. "You don't look like Dionysus. So prove you are."

"Uh...." I said.

"It's not him! After him." one cried.

"Run!" Viridi advised.

I jumped out of the tree and twisted my ankle. Probably sprained it, but I took off running away. The Maenads chased after me. They threw pinecones, goblets, and grapes at me. I looked back. They had pointed teeth and claws. I ran faster. I heard a cluttering noise.

I turned around and they had fallen over. Vines were wrapped around their wrists and ankles. They were screaming for Dionysus. Nymphs started to come out of hiding. They were all looking at the Maenads. They started to cheer. A girl with brown hair stepped forward. She wore a green dress, with a grass pattern.

"River told us about you wanting to form an alliance with us. Well anyone who can outrun the Maenads and survive, they are obviously strong." she said. "Nymphs! I think we can all agree that Pit is strong. Strong enough to defeat the darkness. I think it's safe to say that we can form an alliance with him. All in favor say 'I'" There were at least 100 I's. "All opposed." There was complete silence. "We have spoken. Pit we shall form an alliance with you."

She put out her hand. I shook it. A rainbow formed around our hand shake. She winked and disappeared. The rest of the nymphs disappeared too. The Maenads were gone too. I got back on the Lightning Chariot, and Viridi extracted me to Skyworld.
