"Yet." It was a woman's voice. Distinctly it was a woman. It was beautiful and enchanting. But I wasn't buying it. I couldn't see the figure or the direction the voice came in. Once again the shadows were speaking although this time the being was invisible. I couldn't see her.

So I couldn't see what was entrancing Tanner.

I couldn't see who was entrancing Tanner.

I tried to move him.

I tried to block his view but nothing worked.

He was entranced in whoever or whatever it was.

I pushed him to the left and urged him. He quickly regained his composure and walked again. I tried to trip him and make him fall but he stood right up before he fell. He continued walking. In a calm pursuit.

Tanner was now standing on the ledge of the fountain base. His arm outstretched to hold a hand. Reaching.

He was completely oblivious to the world around him. I tried to push him into the fountain and then in the opposite direction but he just bounced back. I got out my dagger and hacked at the air in the direction he was looking. The voice didn't sound again and I couldn't hear or feel the being dispersing. It was too quiet and I couldn't break Tanner's trance.

His mind was being controlled or enchanted and I couldn't stop it. I felt hopeless. I felt like it depended on me. He should be training me not making me fight for his life. I began to breathe quicker and lost my composure completely.

For a courtesan himself he should know a trick like this surely but he was not budging from his state. It was a state of complete enchantment.

Was this shadow or being or enchantress person what he was afraid of. Was this what Tanner had been looking out for? Was this the reason he was so endlessly cautious? Were these "shadows" the reasons for his restlessness in this village?

He remained just as he was. His eyes glued to the interesting flow of the water from the fountain. I slashed at that area and for a moment the water fell perfectly but just as quickly it swerved around the body. Each curve and turn of the body was shown and slowly I made out the floor shape.

Like the other beings it did not have feet and it hovered above the water beneath it. It did not seemed to be clothed as the water flowed so perfectly. The water was not absorbed either it just slid down the body. It was much like a shower. I walked around to see the full being. I wanted to see if it could be stopped from reappearing but I found that it did not continue. From behind the water fell as if there was nothing on the other side. When I looked at the falling water from the sides and angles it was slightly noticeable.

Although, unless you saw it from the front truly you wouldn't know there was a being there. But of course the people of the town don't know about these beings. Or perhaps they know but aren't necessarily affected. Like Tanner said we as the gifted ones see them. We were more likely to be attacked.

I'd only been in one confrontation with the male beings with the voices from the shadows. Now in front of me it was like another confrontation in need of a battle. Tanner was not breaking from this spell and I couldn't hear any voices. It was almost quiet. I heard the rustling of the trees and the falling of the water and underneath me I heard the gravel crackle and move. There were no shadow voices. There was not a laugh or word of cheek from Tanner's voice. It was all too odd.

Then as I contemplated what I could do I thought to myself multiple ideas. One being, if I left now I may be able to escape a destiny. I may be able to return home to my realm of Earth. I could even perhaps forget everything and not have to become an assassin. I could leave all this behind me. If I run now I could escape. I could go home with Avery even. Now was my chance. If not my only chance.
