"I don't get it you look like a hooker slash Princess." Avonde exclaimed as I found my way outside of the clothing store. We had found our way right to Quersan. Walking in the general direction of forwards we had made it. Down the hill was in fact the place we had to be.
Quersan was in fact preparing itself for a rather large ball. It wasn't until late when we reached the gates. The sun setting over the palace it was quite beautiful. However the streets were still full of people. Roaming around with a certain buzz in their step. The Prince's eighteenth birthday as we later found out was why the Grand Ball was being held.
Still dressed in the green attire from days before I needed new clothes and we would need clothes to look suitable for the ball. If we made it in. With that thought in mind we came to a rather quick decision. So we went shopping with a rather large quantity of money Avonde had somehow acquired through our walk to Quersan.
It had barely taken us to the end of the day to reach Quersan. When we arrived however it had become a sea of Green. My dress looked totally out of fashion compared to all the frocks and frills the women now wore. The colour however was not too different from some gowns waltzing around.
Children tugged at their collars as they choked them and sat uncomfortable around their necks. Mothers gripped their hands in the flurry of the village. Without a moment to lose Avonde took my arm and walked me straight to a clothing shop. He knew exactly where he was going. But he had grown up in this Kingdom of course. As Avonde opened the door for me he smiled at the lady inside.
"A gown for the ball tonight please. We are in desperate need of a makeover as well." Avonde played with my long hair as the lady lifted my chin. Under her breathe she said something I couldn't quite understand.
But in a flash her expression, tone and volume changed.
"Very well. Come along children we don't have all day. Master Ambrose please go with Nancy and find what you are looking for. You my dear girl must sit here." Avonde smiled cheekily. He knew I was in for something.
"If you pick something hideous I will slaughter you." Avonde went to joke back at me but the lady put her hands in the air between us.
"Hush. Hush. We don't have much time until the ball tomorrow."
With that they all scurried in their different directions while I stayed out right where she told me to sit. It was quiet until I heard coat hangers and plastics being pushed about. Rustling of materials brought the shop to life. Almost literally.
Colours in the store became more vibrant and the jewels and buttons on dresses sparkled in the sunlight which was coming through the windows. I turned on the chair to look at myself in the mirror. I looked really different.
I was skinnier from my recent attempt at starvation. My ears looked alert and somewhat pixie like while my eyes looked normal until I stared at them. I looked at my eyes and saw them intensify. As I stared they split into cats eyes, with the slit straight down the middle. I jumped almost to the roof and back. I had never seen them change like that or anyone's eyes look like that without contacts.
Was it even possible? Was I just imagining it? When I allowed myself to look again them were gone. Back to somewhat normal. But now my own appearance frightened me.
When the lady appeared in the mirror behind me I almost jumped just as high. She giggled before brushing my hair gently. Slowly the knots came out and I could see the full length of my hair. Reaching almost to my hips now it was beautiful. I couldn't cut it back home because we donated it but here I could. But I wasn't sure whether I wanted too.
Once the Lady has brushed out every imperfection in my hair she turned to me and asked me something straight into my eyes.
"So do you like how Avonde looks?" I looked over to see Avonde studying dresses and gowns of green. Pushing past coat hangers and stroking material. He was so focused.
