I knew he would no longer care for me. I said it at that time that that would be the last I saw of the nice him. Not surprising. He's an assassin. Not renowned for being nice and therefore why should we bother practising the trait if we have no need for it. The assassin slapped me across the face and I had no idea what had provoked it.
I had snapped out of it. I'd gotten lost in my thoughts. Sadly delirious me wasn't so keen on taking that side of me. What a shame.
The Assassin has my full attention as I stop rubbing my face.
"A maze. Your weapons have gone walk-abouts in this maze. Yes I took them after the last test. But really they werent much use to you out there were they? Funny that. They are all in one place. Find the place find them all."
"No I will not be your tormentor this time. I can see it in your eyes. They are saying what game are we to play this time? Are there any rules? Will you tell them too me? Will I wake up somewhere random?"
"Tormentors wait inside for you. This time they were provided. With your vivid imagination and forever travelling thoughts I suspect you can already guess what awaits you. As I said find one weapon find them all. Two ways out one way in. It's a bit different from your regular maze. The maze itself is not alive. The bushes are not enchanted and the stones will not by themselves pull together to squish you to death. However there is no telling or guessing what your tormentors will do to you."
Lovely.
"Sizes of your tormentors vary, strengths and weaknesses vary dramatically. To your collection of weapons I have added your bow and four arrows. I figure it will assist you in combat over the top of the maze or something crazy like that. Please do not get eaten because once you pass this stage and the next you can become my toy. Doing everything I want you too until you pay me back. Which by the way we will need to discuss. Along with that name of course."
"At the conclusion of this test I will give you options for your assassin name and accreditation. Then you will decide. I hope to return to Pendelum by night fall so some time today will you please exit the maze. We have already been away for five days."
"What?"
"You were at the underwater test for three days. Plus travel time of a day between test one and two. Then test two took around about a day. You finished in the morning but in the clouds you wouldn't know any different. Today is the start of the fifth day."
Without another word he gestured to the maze before us and started to walk back the way we came. The maze was not tall. It didn't particularly look scary. And if anything was over fence height as in the fences from back in my previous realm then I would now. Thankfully. The mouth of the maze was the size of a double door. Something fat wouldn't fit too well in here.
The different tormentors I could experience, well, there was an endless list. Sure my surroundings took like two options out but that was two. Two. Only two. And not all tormentors are big and scary. It's the little ones you have to watch out for sometimes.
"Well this looks like fun." I heard footsteps behind me. The voice was familiar.
"Isn't it just?" Another familiar voice. I couldn't put a face to the voice though or a name for that matter.
"I wonder if she can hear us." I didn't turn or show any signs.
"Of course she can." How did they know?
"How can you tell?"
I kept my eyes straight hoping that he was just joking or something.
"Her ears prick up a bit." I turned around unable to stand not knowing why the voices were familiar and all I got out of one was.
