Ambrose means immortal or divine. That's why my mother spoke to me or addressed me as Angel Divine and that man who came to our front door had called Avery, Avery Immortal. Although I was not immortal I only held the name which in cases was apparently burden enough.

River had told Avonde of the prophecy that circled through the ears of many. But he told me after. Avonde now sees me as some kind of threat. River slowed down again and joined me.

"Avonde has not heard the prophecy he knows of it and most of what's in it."

"Most?"

"He made me tell him only what everyone else understood and how they understood it. But do not trouble him with the rest of the prophecy. As you should know best the knowledge of a prophecy is a burden in itself."

Then he caught back up to Avonde. He had not td Avonde the prophecy. How could Avonde fear me if he did not know it? Or was it because of how easily I killed that man? Was it that I did not think I just acted? What was up with him?

I decided to catch up with them as start a different conversation.

"Why is our mother keeping you and Brianna separated?" Avonde relaxed himself.

"She didn't necessarily do a very good job at it and now she's gone into supreme protection mode." He almost laughed but there was a level of seriousness in his voice.

"But why in the first place?"

"To keep her out of our trouble. To give her the life she deserves but it's not the one she wants." He cared about her so much. I wouldn't be surprised if he told our mother to do that for her. But my only reply to him was,

"Oh."

"How long has it been since you've seen her?" River joined in the conversation although I don't think he actually knew who she was.

"Six months, going on seven."

"Counting or you just know?" I queried.

"I was counting and now I just know."

"Is it significant?"

"Somewhat."

Quickly after realising that he was daydreaming about Brianna, Avonde changed subject.

"How much longer to Pendelum?"

"Just over two days at this place but we can keep walking until darkness is completely upon us. That should bring us to two even days." River pushed his way in front of us changing our direction just slightly.

"Good." Avonde joined him up the front and once again I was left to ponder behind.

For the rest of the trip the boys avoided conversation. I would try to talk but they would walk faster. I would catch up with them but soon enough they'd separate from me. River was sticking with Avonde and it was kid of obvious why. If I left Avonde to become a true assassin he would need someone.

As we continued walking darkness came upon the woods. Soon enough River stopped and rested his head on a tree.

"I'll take first watch considering I had last watch last night."

"I'll go second."

"Alright, so I'll wake you when it's change over."

"Yep."

I trudged off ito the woods away from them. I sat down on a patch of grass and curled up with my back against the tree. Instead of a peaceful quiet night I heard disrupted leaves and creaking branches. Creaking under a heavy weight. Creaking under a humans weight.
