I showered and got dressed the next morning. Jordan waited until I was ready and left the dorm with me.
"We found them in the library last night," he said as we started down the path. "We sent a few students to eavesdrop on them, but we think they caught on. We didn't get much information."
"A damn shame," I said in disinterest.
"You've been staying in the library late," he said.
"I like the peace and quiet. I like not having my annoying roommate constantly trying to talk to me," I said.
Jordan laughed. "Some people just prefer the library, I guess. You shouldn't stay out so late all the time, though. You'll be too tired to focus in class."
"Wow, what a shame that would be," I said.
We reached the academic building and went inside. Jordan started going off on a lecture on why focusing in class was important, and I tuned him out as I looked around the hallway.
We entered Mr. Townsend's room and Jordan stopped so suddenly that I nearly ran into him. I looked at my desk and faked annoyance.
"What the hell?" I said. "I did what you assholes told me to do. Now you're back to acting like preschoolers?"
Jordan clenched a fist. "That wasn't any of us. That was Jin Amano and his damn group." He noticed the marker on his desk and his expression grew angrier. "I can't wait for Constance to get his hands on Jin. This is enough to get him and his friends dragged down to the office."
Mr. Townsend entered the room and his eyes widened as he took in the sight. "No."
"It looked like someone broke in," a student said, pointing at the door handle. "We think it was Jin Amano and his friends. They marked four of the desks."
Mr. Townsend's eyes swept over the room angrily. "I'll contact Headmaster Constance about this. I'm sure he'll want to speak to those delinquents."
"No," Jordan said. "Let Mr. Constance handle it, Mr. Townsend."
"Mr. Constance is not the headmaster of this Academy. I respect Mr. Constance, but clearly he cannot stop these student. Headmaster Constance is experienced at handling these kinds of problem students," Mr. Townsend said, and I didn't miss the sad shift of his eyes to the pictures on his desk. "It's time Headmaster Constance stepped in to deal with this group."
Jordan looked angry, but he didn't fight with Mr. Townsend. He just went and sat at his marked desk. I took my own seat, scowling at the marker on my desk.
"Students, please ignore the marker on the desks. I will have a janitor clean it off and have Headmaster Constance deal with the delinquents who did this," he said, and the students looked satisfied at that.
Mr. Townsend snapped the board cover up and kids stared at Karson's message in anger and surprise. Mr. Townsend glared and took a picture on his phone before hastily erasing it.
"This will not stand," he said. "Remember your duty to keep these students in line, but remember your morals as well."
