"Lets go to the mall today," Whizzer announced one day at breakfast. Jason had been dropped off at school and Trina was out with Mendel. "It'll be super fun!" Whizzer giggled, poking Marvin in the ribs. "And we can see your girlfriend," Marvin blushed, remembering the memory all to sharply. Like a thorn in his heart.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Marvin had been teased about this before, by Jason of all people. The girl at the pretzel bun cart liked him and always tried to flirt with him. Casually of course, as he would be holding hands with Whizzer, who would just laugh and tell the girl that he "shipped it".
"Mhm, then why do you always get the good samples?" Whizzer let some of his usually gelled hair fall into his face. Marvin shook his head, noticing that Whizzer was wearing an old jacket that Marvin had shoved into the back of his closet. He didn't mention it at the time, but looking into the smaller room he noticed the jacket sitting on the empty chair.
"Marvin, why don't we take this conversation into the hallway?" Dr.Charlotte looked saddened, had she done this before? With people she knew and not just some stranger? Marvin followed her out the door, tucking the ring box back into his back pocket. He grabbed the jacket as they left, he pulled around him like a security blanket. As they walked farther down the hallway, Marvin looked at his reflection on a window surface. The bangs under his eyes had seemed to grow, and his eyes were glistening, full of tears. No. He was not going to cry.
"Don't worry!" Charlotte jumped up smiling, "he's not dead," Marvin winced at Charlotte's words. "We had to transfer him to a more sterile room, he had a virus and needed to be in a more cleansed place," Charlotte went on about very important doctor things, so Marvin tuned out. So Whizzer was still alive! He didn't know what to do, did he cry tears of happiness? Or did he just scream at Charlotte who made it sound like Whizzer was dead?
"This is his room," Charlotte stopped, "your going to have to talk to the nurse to get to see him," she shook her head, "good luck with that," she squeezed his shoulder sympathetically and was ushered away by another doctor who was talking about someone with liver cancer.
The door to the room was opened by a male, who was most likely the nurse.
"Can I help you?" he looked up from the clipboard he was flipping through. Marvin stood tall, compared to this man he looked like a little kid. He was so tall.
"I-I am here to see Whizzer, uh Brown," Marvin fidgeted with his hands.
"Family members only, sir,"
"I-i'm his husband!" Marvin blurt. It wasn't too far from the truth. Just far enough that it could work. The man sighed.
"Follow me,"
