About at 5 in the morning, everybody was awake and ready to go, having eating breakfast half and hour earlier. By the time dawn rolled in, all the troops from each Realm were leaving their cities, in the dead quiet of the sunrise. Nobody said anything in the way to The Cross, since they all knew that they were probably marching to their deaths. On The First War, half of the soldiers sent died in battle, and half of the ones who returned died weeks later from disease. So, when the math is done, only a quarter of the soldiers from The War actually lived through and after the war. And to make matters worse, the number of soldiers that set out to battle were 10,000. But even though expectations weren't exactly high for survival, but still, some woke up optimistic and hoped to survive. One of these was Yan himself, who still couldn't believe that he was going to be the next Twilight Ruler. Another was Jeff, who had been nothing but beaming happiness ever since he married Allison, who was holding on to Jeff's hand tightly as they marched in front of their soldiers, which were frowning a bit. It seems that they were completely unaware or informed of the fact that The Commander of The Armed Forces was married to the Light Prince, who was his General. The Captain of this army of soldiers from different Realms under the same banner, was Janister Fresting, a woman who is one of the few farmers of slazen that are left. And the final member of The Leader Squad of The Armed Forces, the Regiment Supervisor and Battle Councilor, Alena Galian, Vandrel's younger sister. She had a vast knowledge of battle tactics and war strategies, which is why Allison gave her such position. The Armed Forces was an army consisted of men and women, the majority being among the ages of 16-23. The only requirements for joining The Armed Forces were two: passing the fitness test, (which was running 10 miles, doing 300 push ups and abs in a row without rest, doing a plank for 5 minutes without changing your position, and stuff like that) and the other requirement was willing to stick with the regiment until you died from disease, by a wound, or during a battle. In other words, once you're in, only death or something serious could get you out of the regiment. The two females were in the back of the soldiers, chatting lowly. For having a 30 year difference, they talked as if they were both the same age. And the person that was the happiest of them all was Darena herself, who wanted to see her brother safe and sound after separating The Dark Lord from his body. She has tried to speak to him again, but he didn't come to her. Darena made sure to check her body everyday in search of a bruise or a mark that might serve as a clue to figure out why she had lost all connection with Darten, who was having the worst of times in The Dark Army of the Dark Realm. The Dark Lord was beyond furious, since The Trinitarian Army now knew of the location of his army, and he blamed the Twilight Prince, who had no idea of how word of The Dark Lord's army had been spotted, but he supposed it was that the moron King traveled during the day, when the black color of the uniforms was completely visible, even from a hundred miles away. And The Dark King thought it'd be pleasing to have the Twilight Prince crawl in front of him while he rode on his horse and held him by a chain on his neck, his wrists and ankles chained as well, limiting his movement, making the march even more painful . By the time The Dark King was leaving The Dead Forest, which is 4 days away from The Forgotten Plains, The Trinitarian Army arrived at The Bridge of Memory. It was already midday, and everybody was starving, for having been 7 and a half hours without a bite to eat, maybe an occasional sip of water every hour. The Leaders of the different sections handed out the rations brought for the journey. It was decided that the journey should be made on foot, because troops on horses are hard to dissimulate, unlike troops on foot, who can hide anywhere and look like one with nature. After resting for 15 minutes, the march went on, the next rest being by the time noon rolled in. This routine went on for days, until both armies reached The Forgotten Plains, The Trinitarian Army arriving 2 days earlier than The Dark Army, but that was no reason to lay back in the grass and watch the sky, doing nothing but relaxing. The Dark Soldiers were expected to arrive during the night, when they couldn't be seen, even if they were right next to you. In the meantime, stories of The First War were told while watch was kept. The ones who had the most details were Derten and Lighx, who had both served in The War.
-"I remember that His army was small, but when we were close to victory, the rest of them showed up."- Derten began, running a hand through his hair. Lighx smirks, recalling the moment as well.
-"10,000 soldiers came in from The Dead Forest. We had no choice but to fall back and then strike all at once, driving the forces away. Only He remained, along with his Commander and General, since the Captain had been shot to death."- Lighx continues, glancing up at the moon, feeling young.
-"And when The Dark King's body crumbled to the ground, the soldiers disintegrated, since the majority were corpses brought back to life. Only few were actually Humans consumed by the Darkness, and when their leader died, they returned to their normal state."-
-"And afterwards returned to their homes after proving that no Darkness resided in them. Then all went back to its normal state, until now."- Silence follows after Lighx and Derten finish their story, and one question lingered in the mind of Vandrel, and after thinking about it for a moment, he asks:
-"How did The Dark Lord die?"- Those who know the answer to his question stare at Vandrel like if he had grown two heads out of nowhere. After an awkward silence that uncomforted Vandrel, Darena answers his question:
-"He was decapitated. His body was burned along with his head in The Pure Springs, so that he couldn't come back to life."- Vandrel frowns at this, not understanding how something could burn in water.
-"Burned in the Springs? That makes no sense. Things don't burn in water."- He exclaims, rather annoyed. Jeff smirks and decides to explain the simple concept to Vandrel.
-"Vandrel, it's a religious reference. When something unholy touches holy water or is bathed in it, it burns, washing the evil away with the burning. The same thing happens with Darkness, since the Darkness cannot touch something as light filled as The Pure Springs. Do you understand now?"- Jeff teases with the question, smirk on his face. Allison and Darena hold back their laughter upon seeing Vandrel's reaction, which was getting red in the face and cursing Jeff under his breath.
-"Gay bastard..."- He mutters before going to his tent, which he shared with Darena, Albert, and his sister Alena. After he's gone, Jeff nudges Allison and they both laugh, lowly so that nobody saw that they were making fun of Vandrel. Not long after everybody went into their tents, except those who had to take the watch until midnight, who have been on watch ever since 6pm rolled by. On the night before The Dark Army arrived at The Plains, not much was said. Everybody knew that when the sun rose, there were only two things that could happen before it set: either Trinity would be safe from Darkness, or Darkness would consume Trinity until only The Dark Realm existed, leading The Human Realm to extinction.
