A few days had gone by and Elise hadn't heard from Raven or Vladimir.  She hadn't told Linette or even Chasity about it either.

Thursday had finally come and Elise couldn't deny the little excitement that bubbled in her stomach. It wasn't just her ready for the challenges ahead. Linette, out of the sports wear given to them, chose the skimpiest outfit. She had no make up on and Elise found herself admiring her natural beauty.

Elise on the other hand didn't want anyone admiring her body especially  the vamps. But the range of outfits did little to cover her. She finally went for the grey sports bra and pink crop top and found her grey slacks tucked in her bag. One final look in the mirror and she smiled imagining a blue vain popping out of Hague's temple.

The women had been lined up outside two wooden double doors and awaited instructed from Hague.

Instead James stepped forward and greeted the women before him. Elise didn't miss his eyes lingering on Linettes chest. So far James hadn't impressed Elise at all, in fact the man disgusted her and disgraced his race.

"Ladies your second challenge is behind those doors." You will enter one by one and complete the challenge. General Hague awaits those who succeed and Artemis awaits those who fail." He paused "questions?"

When no one answered, he nodded and took out a clip board and pen.

Linette was the second to go. She bounced on her feet prepared for whatever was behind that door. Elise had never seen this amount of concentration apart from her usual bubbly character and yet again she felt herself doubting whether she really knew certain people around her.

The doors opened and Linette walked in. Elise felt a small amount of fear for her friend and for herself too. Were either of them to come out at the bottom of this challenge at the bottom, Elise would loose a friend and someone to keep her sane in these trials or Elise would loose her chance at getting the inside scope. She doubted the position for Meredith Mires' assistant  was still open and she couldn't push away the nagging feeling of the need to be here within the walls of the manor that began to envelope her in a weird sensation of safety.

Her thoughts trailed off as did the women and soon it was hers. She stood at the double doors and glared hard at it as if she suddenly had the ability to will them open with her eyes. She nearly didn't hear James tell her to go but once those doors opened, she pushed all thoughts aside and walked in.

Elise was faced with thousands of mirrors. She didn't know how to react. She imagined all the other females standing in her position right now. She heard a soft sobbing and tore her eyes immediately from her reflection. She filled the sound until she stood at the end of the mirror hallway, directly in front of girl around the age of 7.

She stepped closer to the girl, her heart swelling at the sight of the upset child. The girl had stopped crying and Elise had stopped walking. It couldn't be that easy she thought.

Confirming her thoughts, a high pitched squeal rang from the child's mouth just as her fangs slid out of her gums. From child to predator, the girl leaped for Elise who took action immediately and scrambled behind her to find a mirror that hadn't been there earlier.

She glanced back but the girl had disappeared and momentarily Elise thought she had imagined it.

She shook of her fear regaining her confidence. It all seemed pointless when she came by mirrors after mirrors and truthfully she didn't feel she was making any progress especially when the feeling of being watched snaked down her spine.

The girl reappeared with a cruel smirk on her face and struck Elise once in her cheek and twice in the stomach. Elise didn't have time to think about her unusual strength, even for a vampire that young before she met the ground quickly. The girl crawled up Elise and licked the blood on her bleeding nose. Her eyes flashed red and if it was even possible, her fangs extended further down her full lips.

"You taste good." The girl remarked tasting a struggling Elise once more.

"Fuck you." Elise bit out. Elise struggled against the child who's strength only seemed to increase. She looked around the room for some sort of weapon. The child struck Elise once more and licked clean her bloody fingers. In that moment of weakness, Elise flung the girl aside and darted for the nearest mirror. Then she struck the mirror repeatedly until it cracked and shattered.

The child screeched in anger and dragged Elise by her hair.

"I'm going to enjoy killing you. You don't know how much I love the taste of red heads and fiery women."

If Elise wasn't clawing at the ground, she'd be thinking of multiple ways to kill Hague, the damned king and just about all the vampires that allowed her to enter this suicide mission. She questioned Whether Linette had made it out and hoped her dear friend was still alive.

She passed by a shard of the mirror and fought to reach for it. The child threw Elise into the mirror and jumped on Elise. Swas about to sink her fangs into Elise's neck but the child paused.

She sat back on her heels and looked down at a piece of the mirror protruding from her stomach. Elise didn't wait to see whether the girl was still alive. She picked up her sore body and limped towards the only opening between the mirrors praying it was an exit from this madness.

The doors opened and Hague's face was the only thing she remembered before she was swallowed up by darkness as pain scattered all over her body.

Hague picked up Elise and put her on the medical bed before Selene wheeled her to the infirmary.

Hague turned to watch a smiling Eleanor who sauntered up towards him pulling out a peice of glass from her stomach.

"I have to say, I think I like that one. She's stronger than she looks."

Hague didn't say anything, he'd figured Eleanor would share his liking towards the female. Instead, he handed Eleanor a red sweet and her favourite teddy bear. Eleanor grinned at the general. She took her belongings and pranced passed him humming an old German lullaby about blood and the death of virgin women.

Derek and Alexander met Hague by the door of Vincent's office. The king had been expecting them to tell of the second trial that tested the women's strength and how decisive they were in the trial despite having secretly watched it. A few surprises he had to admit and that included Elise. In fact she was the biggest surprise and Vincent knew that with her, there was more surprises to comes.
