Elise Dumont glared at the advertisement in front of her and frowned. The thought of these blood stealing creatures making more money and having the better part of life than her confused and angered her. Frankly order and scientific malarkey had been but a distant memory once they revealed themselves. She remembered it as clear as day. She'd been working yet another late night shift at Bennies. It was bustling with the usual late night customers. The truck drivers sat at their self-proclaimed area slamming their beer glasses together and laughing at just about anything. It was when they stopped that Elise looked up from the table counter feeling the sudden change in the atmosphere just at the tips of the hairs on her lean body. James the owner of the diner increased the volume of the small TV tucked in the corner of the diner and Victoria, the head anchor in their small town, uttered just about the words that changed her life. Victoria Daye stood side by side with General Hague, as he was now known to be, and held her microphone to his lips as he introduced himself, what he was and their arrival.

It was short and sweet to put it quite simply. No killings that lead to their revelation; no world take overs or hacking of the TV like the movies would suggest. They came, he talked and they conquered.

Elise didnt want to believe it at first. But the creatures got comfortable and watching even her friends become the vampires pet, parading their bitten necks as a twisted sign of achievement and ownership, Elise would have to live in denial if she fought against the fact that these creatures were indeed real. And suddenly humanity were not at the top of the food chain. Everything had once seem so clear but reality was blurred, altered until their existence created an alternative reality, once she would have to live. It seemed it was only her who realised how foreign and disturbing it all was.

Granted it didnt happen straight away but nonetheless, it happened to quickly for Elise to comprehend the lost infatuation humanity began to have on their new neighbours. Everything she knew and understood, was being trampled on with their existence. Blood banks were set up, vampires had integrated themselves into the community and built business and systems to run society. In Britain alone, there were 8 districts each dominated by a head vampire, the original vampires. The originals were vampire born and not bitten. They were the most dazzling creatures, air brushed beings who's aura screamed dominance, control. Power. Their fangs were longer and thicker than the bitten vamps. Other than only they having the ability to change humans,  supposedly their bite had humans writhing in ecstasy, a delirious feeing that has rendered people insane.

Elise shuddered. She'd kill herself before she let one of them touch her in that way

London was the capital and headed by the King himself. A King no one had even met. His second in command, general Hague usually dealt with everything to the point Elise began to grow tiresome of the handsome mans face and voice.

Elise scoffed reading the advertisement. The poster had Meredith Mires in her usual multimillion pound suit with a white smile on her face. Upon her new job as a journalist, she came to know of Mires as the Essex (amongst others) district leader. though all the vampires were all godlike and beautiful, Mires' couldn't be denied by anyone not even Elise herself. She had a beauty that enthralled even the most cold hearted person. Her blond hair cascaded in body waves around her slim figure and contrasted her sharp blue eyes. It was this along with her porcelain skin and manicured nails that maintained the facade of a well kept business woman. But Elise knew better.

The vampire was said to be looking for a new assistant. Her fifth one this year, Elise snorted rather unLady like. The vampire was looking for candidates for the 'prestigious role' and would hold an open call in two days.

It had ocurred to Elise that by the looks of it, she was the only one not to be fooled by the image of beauty and perfection the vampires seemed to have mastered in their years of hiding. But others were so easily sucked into this fantasy. She considered it her job to find out the secrets behind their closed doors. Therefore, though she disliked the vampires, nothing would stop her from her first real opportunity to he on the inside, to be Meredith's 6the assistant. Maybe she'd get somewhere.

"Are you even listening to me?" Chastity frowned at her friend. She followed Elise's concentrated gaze and automatically rolled her eyes at Elise's unreasonable hatred for the vampires. "Are you going to take the job? If not then please pay attention to me."

Elises huffed and readjusted the shopping bags in her hand that begun to cut deep into her palms.  " I have to take that job...'

'Or you could do this instead." Chasity directed her friend towards here white Range Rover and handed Elise her phone once the shopping was tucked into the boot.

Elise glanced down at the paused video and pressed play.

After the video, a new twinkle danced in Elise's green irises.

"as your friend, I advice you to try this. You never know, you may walk out a different person." chastity reasoned.

"A different per...Chas I could walk out the Kings's bride for crying out loud. where is the sanity in this?"

"thrown out the window since our friends arrrived'

"Your friend" Elise mumbled and marched past her determined friend, and into the passanger seat and waited.

"Elise."

"Chasity."

"You might not even win, not saying you dont have the qualities of a beloved or a queen at all but I have to put out the possibilities - "

As her friend rambled on, Elise's thought process did so too. By the end of her thoughts, Meredith's search for an assistant seemed pointless compared to the position that could get her closer to the King than ever. she would go undercover and find a story that would change her life perhaps for the better.

"I'll do it"

"and frankly...wait, you will?" Elise nodded igniting a girly squeal from chastity. "it will be so fun. Maybe you'll see what it feels like now. I wish I could go." Chastity scowled for a brief second before she saw her two bite marks on the left side of her neck and the competition for the King's Bride was long forgotten.

Elise shuddered. If this was how it was going to be, turning into a love sick puppy, love for creatures who depended on humans to survive, maybe this journey for the greatest story history will have ever read, wasn't worth it...
