It was not the First time Elise was in Vincent's office. The first time she hadn't noticed how the his Highness kept a clean room decorated quite lavishly in red, gold and black. She was sitting in a red sofa staring directly in front of her to a man who had just condemened another. She had never been in this situation and it didnt sit well with the red head.
"You can breath now."
Elise shook her head though she did Release a breath she was unknowingly holding.
Vincent walked around his desk and sat on it in front of Elise. She had always been this way I'm all her many forms when she was worried or frightened and tried to hide it, she would bite her bottom lip and hardly blink as her mind raced away with its thoughts.
He stroked her hair like he had always done and tipped her chin up to meet his honey gaze.
"He will never touch you again. Under my watch, you will not be bitten against your will. I swear to you I will kill any man who does."
Elise slowly brushed his hand to the side. "Why the special treatment?" The king raised his eyebrows as though he was bemused with Elise's accusation. "Do you think you would have done that for Regina? Linette? Vera? Blake?"
She got up suddenly, unable to sit and look the man in the eye. She wouldn't and couldn't face the truth if the situation. He wouldn't have reacted he same way, something in her too and something in her was calling to him more than she would have liked. It irked her.
The king could read the alarm I'm Elise's posture and the slight raise in her voice. "I am the king and as the king, I will do whatever I please and deal with any situation depending on the event and person. So I may not have done the same for the other girls."
He'd tried to twist the situation and Elise could feel familiarity in it that she shook off.
"I'm not watching you kill that man."
Vincent's eye flickered between red and brown. "He tried to bite you."
"I will not stand to see someone defanged. Whatever punishment he gets, is humiliation not a step further? In fact is he not the second in command to Victoria? He'll lose his title too."
"He tried to bite you." Vincents anger was growing. Why couldn't she understand? He wanted to protect her.
"I heard Victoria. So tell me, is it about the rules or about me?"
"Don't question me."
"Answer the question." Elise could see the anger grow in the usually composed man but he hadn't taken the bait. "are you sick Vincent? What type of laws do you creatures put in place That mistreats their own like this?"
"Shut up Elise. You are not one of us. You won't understand the complexity of things. These rules are in place to bring about order and serenity."
"No your highness these rules are about control and power. You disgust me. I'm glad I'm not one of you."
Vincent had lost control and at that moment caught Elise's neck in his big hands and slammed her body against the wall. He held her in front of him consumed by anger and regretablly, shame. She had read him and he had listened to the facts and his pride was more than injured.
He probably would have killed the fragile human if Alexander didnt come in and pulled the enraged man from Elise. She gripped her neck sucking in mounts of air and blinking profusely. Her vision returning, she looked at Vincent past Alexander's shoulders. She needed to see him for what he really was. She needed a reminder to quench her growing fondness for the man and she got it. All she felt was disgust.
