Ava and I both managed to sleep in today. Usually, one of us wakes up and makes noice, so then the other wakes up. We both got up around 9:30 today, which was an achievement for both of us.
I had this crazy dream right before I woke up though. I was with my friend, Alice, from Alabama, and for whatever reason, we were at the county courthouse in my hometown just to watch a trial about gas lines or something. I have been to court several times because of custody battles. Stacey, my sister, didn't even want to raise Ava, but we still had to go through the court, and it was a mess. I had been taking care of Ava for the most part, anyway.
Anyway, my mom and Stacey were suddenly sitting there because apparently our apartment was affected by this. Why this was going on trial, I don't know. Then sirens went off due to weather--they have tornadoes up here in Iowa, which is probably what inspired that, and then all of a sudden we all had to run and try to evacuate, but we couldn't.
Somehow, I woke up in the dream in a place that looked a lot like my room. I think Alice was there, and then she had me read the last page of a book of series after telling me she didn't know where my family was. The book ended tragically and weirdly. There was some sort of normal looking human who claimed to be a lizard. It was so weird.
If this made no sense, it means you read it correctly.
My mom died in 2008, so I don't have many dreams about her anymore. When I do, it's just weird because I barely remember what she looked like. I don't have many pictures of her. I haven't seen Stacey in a long time because she's in prison. I barely remember what she looks like either. I know she was blonde, but that was then.
It was just a weird way to start my day.
Other than tornadoes, we're pretty safe here in Iowa, and I'm not really used to living in a really safe area. Tornadoes are less likely to harm us than hurricanes though, so we have that going for us.
I still have no idea where my dream came from... Maybe I'm afraid that we're going to have a nuclear war or something, but realistically, we'll be fine.
This morning, Ava and I went to a store that's specifically for teachers, which is something I wouldn't have even dreamed of in Alabama.
The manager was so nice to us, and she walked us around the store, showing us where everything was. It was really awesome to see that good of customer service. The manager was really welcoming when she found out we were from Alabama, and told us if we needed anything, that we could just let her know.
I didn't expect to love Iowa this much or to be this excited for school to start this year.
