THE SWORD AND SICKLE
PART ONE
CHAPTER SIX
DEAD BODY IN THE OVAL OFFICE
"Thank you very much, Doctor. I am glad I could help. I would like to talk to you about a personal matter, if you have the time," said Nurse Bailey.
"I really don't have the time, but for you, I will make the time. Let's find a private space where we can speak." After finding an empty office, the doctor asked, "How can I help you?"
Sir, this morning, I believe I had a complex seizure after falling asleep in the waiting room. When I awoke, I experienced a change in awareness where I didn't know who I was, if I was human, or what planet I was on. Before I woke, I had a hypnagogic vision while I was in a deep sleep. I asked the man who he was, and he identified himself as Levi Jackson, the human representation of God himself."
"Well, Nurse Bailey, you had an extraordinary experience last night. You cared for the President of the United States in unusual circumstances. I wouldn't worry about it unless you suffer another one. As far as hypnagogic experiences, they are common; up to twenty percent of the population experiences this phenomenon, and I am not worried about that either. Usually, that experience is caused by poor sleep, and you qualify. I will take your blood pressure if you would like."
"No, I am sorry I have wasted your time. Oh, one more thing, I was reading the President's chart last night, and you mentioned that he told you that he had a change in awareness, just before his hair turned white. You don't think it is connected to his illness, do you?"
"I have considered that, Nurse Bailey, but don't you worry about what he has; you cannot catch it. Again, thank you."
The doctor reflected for a moment as Nurse Bailey left the room. The President didn't tell him what he had seen before the complex seizure. Perhaps he should visit the President again, before he continues his rounds. When he opened the door to the President's room, he saw the First Lady sitting on the bed with her husband. "Excuse me, Mr. President, I would like to speak to you some more in private, please."
"I am former President Hammett," he replied. Whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of my wife, doctor."
"As you wish. After talking to your night nurse, Angela, I began to think that I may be overlooking some possibilities about your illness. I would like to inquire as to what you saw before you had your seizure?"
"Now, doctor, you know I cannot divulge that to you. I am sorry, doctor, but you may never find out what the cause of my illness is. I am just grateful for what you have done to make me better. Maybe it was trace amounts of radiation poison; did you find any in the blood tests you ran?"
"No, and we didn't do anything to cause this type of response in your health. You should be dead. It was just that Angela told me about an experience she had this morning when she fell asleep in the waiting area. When she woke up, she had a complex-partial seizure and a strange hypnagogic experience while she napped. She said she saw a man named Levi Jackson who talked to her."
"Doctor, get her and bring her to me so I can talk to her."
"I believe she went home, but I am sure she is not far away. I will get her cell number and call her right now."
