Robert’s body was outstretched over the bed and Jess half lying on his chest, holding tight and in a deep sleep. Suddenly, the alarm went off.

“hmmm” Robert groaned, glancing at the time: 6:15am “Why do you need to get up so early, baby?” he complained

“I need to be at the hospital by 7:30, Robbie”

He took a deep breath, refusing to open his eyes

“Sleep longer, honey” Jess finally stood up, going to the bathroom.

Robert took a deep breath and decided to get up, even with his body complaining. He went to the kitchen and started making some breakfast, he could always take a nap later. His training was only around 10am anyway.

He suddenly felt Jess’s tiny arms surrounding his chest “Hmmm, you’re up?” she said, surprised

“Yeah, I’ll take you to the hospital” Robert said, still sleepy

“Honey, it’s ok. I’ll get the…”

“No,” Robert turned back “I’ll take you” he kissed her forehead, then her lips

She smiled against his lips “Hmm you remember what happened yesterday when we got distracted in this same spot?”

He groaned “Yes, my hand definitely remembers”

“Let me help” She went to his side

“Go get ready, baby, I got this” Robert said

She smiled at him, she just loved when he was like this. She sometimes wondered how lucky she was.

They shared a nice and more extended breakfast, since he was taking her to the hospital she had more time. She sensed his nervousness already, but he simply said he was fine so she didn’t push him. It was only when he was dropping her that she spoke

“It will be ok, honey” She leaned to hug him and kiss him

He smiled at her

“Remain calm, you know how to talk and be charming, everyone will love you”

“Thanks, love” he kissed her “have a good day, call me if anything comes up”

“Ok, you too, love you!”

“Love you too, baby” Robert smiled, watching her leave the car. She was just way too adorable in his eyes.

He returned home, but he felt now very awake and didn’t feel like go back to sleep. He had nothing to do in there, so he just decided he would go early and get some free training himself.

So when he arrived, he got changed and went to the field, taking a ball with him. He loved doing it. Be alone, away from the world, with a ball at his feet.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get that for a long time.

“Think that will save you?”

He turned back to see Gordon, a 22 year old and also one of the newest acquisitions of the club.

Robert raised his eyebrows “Save me… from what?”

“The substitute bench, of course” he smiled, arrogantly

“Is that a spot to be saved from?” Robert said, taking his attention back to the ball in his feet

“Well, if you don’t pretend to be a first string player… then it is not”

“Oh, well, it is not up to me to decide that”

“It is up to you to fight for that. Coming from a street team is not on your favor, you know.”
