Life at Your Feet (Sequel to The Player)

It was just another day and Jessica was ready for the usual routines. She did not see Ashley at the changing rooms, so she had probably gone up already. When Jessica was ready, she went up to her service’s nursing room, where the other nurses already were. The conversation was loud, between the female nurses, as the only male in the room rolled his eyes. Ash looked at Jessica with a weird expression as she heard the conversation

“What did you expect? For him to be single forever?”

“Oh, come on, they weren’t doing anything, why people deduce they are a couple?”

“They were smiling to each other! And she seemed to like him”

“Honestly, who doesn’t like him?”

“Come on nurses, let’s get to work” The male nurse said “If I was that boy I would just enjoy my life without any commitments.”

Jessica approached Ash “What the hell is going on?”

“You don’t know? Robert didn’t tell you anything?”

Jessica’s eyes widened. “Oh, this cannot be good. Tell me what happened”

Ash gulped “There are pictures all over the magazines and internet of him with a girl, talking and in his car”

Jessica raised her eyebrow “W-What?”

Robert picked up his phone furiously, immediately calling Jess. She didn’t pick up, she probably had the phone on silence mode, since she was working.

He shut his eyes, stress filling his body. How could he be so stupid and not think about paparazzi?

He never told Jessica about Nicole. Well, there was not much to say, really, but what would she think seeing those pictures now?

“Calm down, man. Everything will be solved” Mikel said

Robert took a deep breath “Go on, guys. I’ll be at the training in a minute”

He tried to call again, but gave up, since she wouldn’t answer the phone. He decided to send Jessica a text: Please baby, whatever you see on the tabloids or whatever they tell you about me is not true… Nothing happened with that girl, I promise. Please call me as soon as you see this text. I love you x

“Hey, Jess, please calm down” Ash hugged her on their morning break “You know how the pap’s are. Maybe nothing happened”

“I just want to know exactly what happened” Jessica snapped “He never told me he was with someone yesterday”

“Maybe he forgot… maybe it was nothing important”

Jessica took a deep breath, picking up her phone to see his message.

“Did he say anything?”

“He tried to call… there’s a message”

Ashley smiled when Jessica showed her his text “he is worried, see? I am sure it is nothing. Call him”

Jess pressed the button to call her boyfriend, but now was his time not to pick up.

“He’s not answering”

“Maybe he’s training. Just wait and do not stress out before you talk to him”

Jess took a deep breath, maybe Ash was right.

After the training, Robert immediately ran to change and have some lunch. It would be useless though, since he could not be with Jess before her shift at the hospital was over.
