Arwen locked eyes with his king. The same King that had given him the position of the general. The same king that was like a brother to him. The same Brother he didn't think twice to betray.

King Ashcroft couldn't pull his eyes away from Arwen. The King's blood brother squeezed his shaking shoulders though he was barely holding onto his temper. Arwen had been his brother too.

"A woman. a witch nonetheless. you throw everything away for something that is not worth fighting for?" King Ashcroft whispered barely unable to understand what motivated his close friend's actions.

"How do you know what is worth fighting for? The people outside of theses walls are worth fighting for and yet you sit on your throne happy that you can happily eat, happily have your harem of women -"

His Blood Brother struck the ex general in his face. "How dare you speak like that to your king?"

The air was thick with swirling emotions of hatred, anger that had the blood of the three vampires' blood curdling.

"what has he ever done for you? he thinks nothing but himself. He loves no one but himself! where do we stand when it comes to your beloved King?"

Arwen was struck again partly because King Ashcroft's younger sibling detested the lack of respect that dripped with the betrayer's every word and partly because he hated the fact that this man kneeling before him may have a point. The King stopped his brother from striking Arwen once more for he wanted to take action himself.

Ashcroft unshielded his long sword, gifted to him by his father after a battle he had won that confirmed his position as King. He watched the reflection of the dim candle lights and then his face. In that sword he saw a broken man who for once was unsure about what to do and it was all because of the man beneath him that he just a few hours ago, called him family.

Ashcroft held the tip of his blade at Arwen's heart. Arwen let out a small chuckle "you do not deserve your title. You don't deserve life. Yet you have it both. It's funny how the world works. Ashcroft dug the tip of his blade deeper into Arwen's neck. A trickle of blood stained his steel blade but Arwen didn't wince and Ashcroft's heart hardened. "kill me and she will not let you live this down. you will always have to look over your shoulder King."

"A risk I am willing to take." He shifted his blade south and with added pressure, the blade cut through Arwen's skin and pierced his heart. Ashcroft ignored the female voice behind him. he looked back thinking it was Arwen's lover, somehow in his castle watching the death of her love but the scream was of someone else and despite her look of sadness, he knew this was what was best for everyone. Or at least he thought he knew.
