A few days had passed by rather quickly since the murder of Luciano's parents, and the entire family, even the grumpy and asshole of a grandfather Romulus, had sat together every day since then to plan a funeral for Giovanni and Florentina. Luciano practically was running the whole show though with his plans to have the mausoleum built in the garden. He had to first talk it over with Romulus of course due to the land being owned under his name. This was currently taking place in a sitting room, the fireplace lit to create more light since the candles weren't doing too much. You sat next to your lover quietly, toying with the ruby engagement ring that Luciano had finally given to you to symbolize the fiery love and passion the two of you held for one another. Flavio was sitting in a singular chair while Rema sat across from you and Luciano with her husband.
"You want what?" Romulus asked, sounding like he had misheard his youngest grandson when he had indeed heard in correctly.
"I want to build the mausoleum where they died. You can't play the old age card on me, Nonno. You being a vampire doesn't allow for that," Luciano replied as he pushed a large scroll towards the elder vampire across the table.
Rema unrolled it and flattened it on the table before Romulus could even lay a finger on it. On it was drawn in detail the plans for the mausoleum. The building materials were listed out on the side and the price it would take to build it. Rema nodded as she looked over it carefully, taking it all in.
"I think it's doable, carissimo. I mean, the architecture suits what they liked best, and it's in a remote spot that's well shaded, so they wouldn't be disturbed," Rema mused to Romulus.
"Do you not see the cost? No. My answer is no, and it is final," said male answered.
"Romulus Faustinus Evander Julius Hades Octavian Prometheus Vargas, this is your son and daughter-in-law that this mausoleum is being built for, and if you aren't careful, you may end up in there next to them one day. Now, stop being an asshole..."
Luciano and Flavio sunk down in their seats at hearing their grandmother cuss. It wasn't often that Rema cursed at anyone or anything, but when she did curse, it meant that she was pissed. Romulus gulped inaudibly and nodded.
"I suppose it's not that bad of a price..."
"That's what I thought. Luciano, do you have people contracted for the project already or anyone in mind?"
"I was thinking about commissioning Donatello to do the statues on the outside and the other carvings inside. I'm not sure about who to get to build it though..."
"Romulus and I will take care of that part. You just focus on getting in contact wit him."
Luciano nodded. Flavio sat back up and leaned forward.
"May I create their clothing for the funeral?" the blond asked. "I have some ideas that I think would make them look stunning even in their state."
Rema and Luciano nodded. Romulus seemed to be ignoring everyone else as he focused his attention on you. You were still fiddling with the ring absentmindedly, seemingly zoned out on a spot on the floor. He rolled his eyes and crossed his arms as he slumped down on the couch. Rema poked his cheek before responding to Flavio.
"Of course. I know what you produce will be beautiful."
Flavio beamed and got up. "I must get started right away!" He then left in a hurry, shouting something in Italian to presumably a maid or possibly a fellow tailor that lived in the castle.
Luciano grabbed your hands in his, startling you mildly out of your dazed state. You looked at him with slight panic in your eyes. He gave you a concerned look as he ran his thumbs over the back of your hands. You calmed down and sighed. He pulled you into a tight hug, you hugging him back quickly and burying your head in his chest. Rema smiled at the two of you as she leaned against Romulus.
"Aren't they adorable?" she asked into his mind through their physical connection.
"No... They make me sick when they do all that lovely dovey bullshit..."
"Romulus... You and I were like that once too."
"Yes, but not in front of others or in public. That would have been scandalous. It still is scandalous."
"Carissimo, we used to hug and kiss in front of your parents all the time, and they never seemed to care. They even did that in front of us. Why does Luciano and (y/n) doing that here bother you so much?"
"I don't know... Something about her rubs me the wrong way... She's nothing like any of the other women or girls I've met over the course of my life... Save for Florentina... Perhaps that's why I don't like her..."
"I can't just dislike (y/n) because of that small detail. What did your mother always tell you about judging people?"
" 'Do not judge another according to your own experiences with others. Insight from your own findings only leads the destruction of a good relationship and those that are potential.' "
"Mhm, so please, stop being so cold towards her."
Romulus sighed. "Sì gattina..."
"Grazie."
"Prego."
Luciano and you had begun to stare at Romulus and Rema as she placed a gentle kiss to his cheek, causing a small blush to dust over his face. You smiled as Rema began to pepper her husband's face with kisses, causing his blush to darken. Luciano even let a small smile grace his features at the sight of his grandparents. Unbeknownst to anyone, Florentina and Giovanni's killer was watching from a tree, making a new plot to take down the vampire kingdom.
~Author's Note~
DreamsForDays here! I'm really sorry that this is on the shorter side and late, but I wanted a bit of fluff and arguing between Romulus and Rema because I absolutely adore those two as a couple. That and I've been having Writer's Block again. Anyway, things are going to pick up in the next chapter in terms of pace. I've decided on actually doing a chapter dedicated to some detective work. Now that I've said that, here are the translations.
Translations:
Nonno - Grandfather
Carissimo - Dearest
Sì gattina... - Yes kitten...
Grazie. - Thank you.
Prego... - You're welcome...
That should be all of them! Thanks for reading! Feedback in the comments is always appreciated! Until next time!
