Upon reentering the castle, the two of you walked the corridors for awhile, arm in arm. As you grew closer to approaching the ballroom, Romulus had appeared after rounding a corner. He looked like he had been waiting there for awhile. His arms were crossed over his chest with his usual scowl on his face. Luciano and you stopped walking directly in front of him. Romulus looked between the two of you, then stopped with his gaze on you. You gulped inaudibly as you attempted to keep a straight face.
"You are not permitted to marry him," he said.
"What?" Luciano and you asked at the same time.
"Neither of you are fucking deaf. You can't get married if she's who you're choosing," Romulus growled, his last comment directed towards Luciano.
"You're fucking kidding me... You have to be fucking kidding me! You said I could marry whoever I wanted! Do go back on your word now!" Luciano hissed, letting go of you.
"If I can recall from what I found out, she's the woman who slapped you the other month, is she not?"
"Well... Yes, but-"
"She should be dead, but your grandmother talked me out of executing her..."
"I deserved to be slapped! I deserved it completely for insulting her intelligence and wounding her pride to a level that is irreconcilable on my part!"
The elder Vargas looked at you with a raised eyebrow. "Is that true?"
You looked down. "Yes, Your Majesty."
"Hmph... Either way you can't marry her."
"You're being unreasonable... If you want me to marry so badly, why are you rejecting the one person I'd like to spend the rest of my miserable life with on this god awful planet?"
"Don't try to be all poetic with me... That shit doesn't work in real life... I am not changing my mind on the matter, and that is final. Now, get back in there and mingle with the other maidens. This discussion is over."
"No! I am not-"
"I said this discussion was over..."
With that said, Romulus went back into the ballroom and to his wife. Luciano was seething with anger. His hands were clenched into fists at his sides, the knuckles nearly white from squeezing his hand shut so hard. You gently touched his shoulder before placing a tender kiss on his cheek. His anger melted away before your eyes as he let his hands fall into their natural relaxed position. He didn't question how you managed to calm him down with a simple kiss, but he would find out in time that that was your gift. Luciano brought his hands to yours and held them loosely. You looked up at him sadly.
He sighed and brought your hands up to kiss your knuckles. "I apologize for my grandfather's behavior tonight..."
"It's fine..."
"No, it's not. You've been treated so horribly tonight, and it's my fault. I won't let him stop me from marrying you though... I will have you... One way or another I will take you as my wife before God and start a family with you."
You nodded, a tear or two pricking your eyes. "I always forget that the royal family is devoutly Catholic."
"While that is true, we are not free of sin, but I couldn't care less about that... I'd sin a thousand times if it meant that I could have you beside me."
"You're getting all poetic again."
"I can't help it. When I get passionate about something, I can't help it. I'd rather take execution than be without you." He kissed your knuckles again. "I swear to you though, (y/n), I will make you mine. I'll do what ever it takes, but if for some reason I cannot keep my promise, I want you to know that no matter what, I will always love you."
You blushed and looked away. He made you look back at him and captured your lips in a tender kiss. You kissed back for a brief moment before pulling back. Luciano cupped your one cheek and run his thumb over your skin. You gave him a small smile with half lidded eyes. He gave a mirrored look. He then pulled you closer and kissed your forehead and wrapped an arm around your waist for a hug. You wrapped your arms around his neck to hug him back before letting go.
"I'll be heading back to my room. I refuse to participate in anymore of his ridiculous events... Don't tell anyone where I've gone. Let them figure it out for themselves."
"May I tell Gilen if he asks?"
"Him or any of his family, yes, you may tell them, but do not tell anyone else."
You nodded. "Very well."
"Until the next time we meet then," he said as he gave you one final kiss.
"Until we meet again," you said after returning the kiss.
Luciano turned and left to go to his chambers. You did the same but headed towards the ballroom. You entered quietly and walked over to where you had last seen any of the Beilschmidt family members. Sure enough, all four of them were still there. You tapped on Gilen's shoulder, causing him to jump a bit before turning to see who had touched him. He calmed down once he saw it was you. He smiled at you and offered to get you a glass of blood, which you politely accepted. Gilen left to get it and handed it to you once he came back. You thanked him and took a sip. He looked around as he took a sip from his glass.
"Say, where is Prince Luciano?"
"He went back to his room. Don't tell anyone though."
He nodded slowly. "Well, I suppose you'll be sticking with me the rest of the night?" He paused in speaking before sounding a bit frantic. "I'm sorry! That sounded rude! I meant to ask if you'll be joining me for the rest of the festivities tonight!"
A giggled slipped past your lips as you shook your head. "You're so worried sometimes about how you sound. You've known me for how long? You should know that I don't care how you speak to me so long as it's not inappropriate."
He hung his head. "I'm sorry. Having to attend these balls weekly now is really starting to take a toll on me..."
"I understand Gilen. Just try to take it easy when you get home in the morning, okay?"
"Okay (y/n)."
The rest of the evening, as Gilen had predicted, you spent with the Beilschmidts while your parents mingled with couples their age that they knew. Eventually it became time for everyone to leave the castle and return to their homes. You climbed into the carriage your parents and you had rented for the occasion and closed the small curtains that were tied off to the side of the windows. You rested your head against the frame of the carriage as you let your eyes flutter closed. Visions of your first kiss with the prince danced through your head, causing you to smile to yourself as you soon drifted off to sleep.
~Author's Note~
DreamsForDays here! Drama! I promised you some drama in this chapter, and here it is! Gosh darn Romulus ruining everything once again for Luciano... He just can't catch a break with this marriage thing, can he? Oh well. What will happen next? You'll have to wait until next week to find out. I will tell you that it will be a special chapter since it's something I've never really done before in any of my stories, but I hope you'll all like it regardless. Here's a hint though for those of you who want to try to guess what it is: It's one of the things that gave the story its "Mature" rating. That should be all for now. Thanks for reading! Feedback in the comments is always appreciated! Until next time!
