Extra #9 - Giovanni's First Interactions with Gwendoline

        News of a new baby to be born in the castle spread rapidly as one person passed the news on to the other. The royal family was notified first since the child was to be born to the Hunter and the queen's second personal maid. You were quick to make your way to the hospital wing in the castle with your other personal maid, Anna, so you could support Lauren in the miracle of child birth. Lauren had just been put into a delivery room as the two of your arrived. You smiled brightly at her as she laid on the bed. She smiled back at you and her long term companion and best friend. Anna took quick strides to her side and held one of her hands gently. Lauren's smile widened as she then extended a hand to you. You walked over and took it, rubbing the back of it gently with your thumb.

"How are you feeling?" you inquired.

"I'm in slight pain... But that's normal in a vampire pregnancy! I'll be okay!" she chirped.

"As chipper as ever, Lauren," Anna sighed out. "Say, where's your husband? Shouldn't he be in here?"

        "Oh! Matt's in the waiting room. He said that he didn't want to witness the baby coming out."

        "You're awfully accepting of that..."

        "Well, yeah. I'm not going to force him to be in here. He said it grossed him out, so he didn't want to see it."

        "Unbelievable..."

        Anna let go of Lauren's hand and left the room for a moment. You and the blonde exchanged curious glances as you heard a bit of a scuffle coming from down the hall. Karen opened the door and came in, followed by Anna who was dragging Matthieu in by his ear. Lauren giggled at the sight of the tall male being dragged around like a child being scolded. Anna brought him to the unoccupied side of the bed. Karen closed the door after a nurse came in and went to check on Lauren's dilation as Anna forced Matt to stay in the room for the delivery.

        "Honestly, Matthieu, you've hunted and killed how many people since you came here under His Majesty's orders, but you can't handle watching child birth?" the raven haired female seethed.

        "It's gross! They come out all nasty and covered in weird stuff!" he tried to reason.

        "You're not five. Man up!"

        Lauren let go of your hand and grabbed for his with both of hers. "I won't force you to stay, but I would love to have you by my side when I deliver."

         "I..."

        "Oh, come now, Matthieu. You won't even see a thing! It will all be hidden behind sterile drapes," Karen explained.

        Matt sighed and nodded. "Alright, I'll stay..."

        "Yay! Thank you, Mattie!"

        "You're welcome, Laura-bear."

The couple exchanged a quick kiss before Karen asked for you and Anna to step out of the room so they could start with the delivery process. Both of you complied without any fight and exited the room. Two nurses on standby stood in the hall with you and made idle chit chat to pass the time until the delivery was over or their assistance was needed. Sooner than later, Karen came out as she was wiping her hands with a clean paper towel.

"Just let us transfer her over to the maternity ward, and you guys can ogle the baby all you want, okay?"

        You both nodded and watched as the baby, which was swaddled in a blanket, came out and was taken to do a post delivery check up. Then Lauren came rolling out on the hospital bed, Matt faithfully by her side. There was a bit of blood on the bed, as was to be expected, so she'd be transferred to a regular bed once in her own room. Anna began following Karen and the nurse immediately down the hall. You followed suit. Both of you were forced to wait outside the room once more so they could switch her bed. Once that was done and the old bed was wheeled out, Anna and you walked in. Lauren looked completely drained, but still happy. Matt was sitting on the edge of the bed, gently petting her head to smooth out her hair.

        "Hey guys," she greeted, the lack of enthusiasm definitely stating that she was tired, but the smile on her face said that she was happy to see you both.

        "How'd it go?" you asked.

        "It went well, but Matt nearly passed out in the middle of it."

        "Why?"

        "He peaked around the drapes."

        "Ah. You shouldn't have done that, Mattie."

        "Oh, but a cork in it (y/n)... It was on accident..."

        "Mhm. Sure it was."

        Matthieu muttered to himself as the door then opened. Karen held the baby, swaddled in a new blanket, in her arms. She walked over with a smile as the same nurse from before followed with a clipboard. The doctor gave Lauren the child carefully.

        "Congratulations you two. You've successfully delivered a healthy baby girl."

        "Thank you," Matt and Lauren responded while gazing at the little girl in the mother's arms.

        "Now, do you have a name picked out?"

        "Yes. Gwedoline Amelia Williams," Matt said proudly.

        Karen nodded and verified the spelling of the name before writing it down on the clipboard the nurse handed her. The two then left, but not before being told to let Luciano and Giovanni in. Anna and you gushed over how cute Gwendoline, both of you and Matt being allowed to hold her before your husband and son came in. When they did, they approached Lauren.

        "What did you have, Auntie Lauren?" he asked innocently, wanting to know the gender.

        "A girl," she responded happily.

        "What's her name?"

        "Gwendoline."

        "Will you call her Gwen for short?"

        "Mhm. Would you like to hold her?"

        "If you and Uncle will allow it."

        "I'm fine with it. Matt?"

        Matt nodded and the two of them had him sit in a chair that had two pillows on it before he could hold her. Matt carried his daughter over to him and instructed him on how to hold her. He nodded and did as told, making sure to cradle her head. He looked at her sleeping face. She soon woke up though and looked up at him with bright eyes. Giovanni smiled at her, and she gave him a toothless smile in return. He chuckled and leaned down to give her a soft Eskimo kiss. Gwen giggled and gripped his nose gently. Giovanni's smile widened.

        "You're so cute," he cooed.

        She laughed and patted his face. He laughed too. All the adults in the room smiled at the cute scene before them. They could all tell that the two would grow to be close friends in years to come.
